@chamomilenottea @psyc220 @chamomilenottea#CD7 @psyc220 Absolutely! As someone who is also in criminal justice, it's disappointing to hear about all the types of bias that plague our system that is supposed to be fair and serving justice. This is definitely a big issue that needs to be addressed
@hargraer @psyc220 @hargraer @psyc220 #CD7 It is so important to break this stigma! I agree that it can have negative effects on male victims, but their are also stigmas about what victims of certain crimes look/are like that can negatively everyone, too. Its sad victims must also deal with stigma
#CD7 @psyc220 Some parents reinforce systems of oppression by forcing traditional gender roles upon their kids. As a parent, I would encourage my child to pursue their interests regardless of how society genders it and teach them it is ok to diverge from traditional gender roles
@teagdavis @psyc220 @teagdavis @psyc220 #CD6 I agree! Your comment and discussions of the gendered differences in regards to mental health reminds me of the video posted in the CM module page!
#CD6 @psyc220 an axis of oppression not discussed in the book is mental health. This intersects with gender bc male/female/trans people each have dif experiences with how they are perceived, treated, and diagnosed w/ mental health issues. Gender stereotypes can play a role here.
@Katevonnii @psyc220 @Katevonnii @psyc220 #CD6 I definitely think gender stereotypes play a big role in how different genders' mental health issues are viewed/treated!
@johnnysko8 @psyc220 @johnnysko8 @psyc220 #CD6 I agree the intersection of religion w/ other identities can sadly result in a lot of issues for some individuals. Some common identities I think of intersecting with religion leading to marginalization are race, skin color, national origin, and language
@Hanhennessy @psyc220 @Hanhennessy @psyc220 #CD6 I agree with you 100%, and I can think of an example where one of my own family members has experienced ageism in the workplace. Its quite sad how older people are tried to be disregarded and cast aside like that.
@psyc220 #220Ethics this tweet demonstrates the ethic of autonomy because it deals with concerns about the denial of rights, a group trying to dominate another group, and fairness
On this International Day of the Girl, we stand in solidarity with the courageous Iranian women and girls who have inspired the world through their ongoing protests.
@GraceDpsyc220 @psyc220 @psyc220 #220Ethics I agree that this tweet demonstrates the ethic of autonomy because it involves giving greater access to certain groups and works to achieve equality (fairness) in access to certain resources
@shyguypsyc @psyc220 @shyguypsyc @psyc220 #CD5b Absolutely! It is so important that we work to change that mindset that people hold about disabled people!
#CD5b @psyc220 This tweet perfectly describes why inspiration porn is so harmful, which is why I included it. I also included an example of inspiration porn. One way society facilitates inspiration porn is through misconceptions that disabled people simply have no ability
@ananemily_p220 @psyc220 @ananemily_p220 @psyc220 #CD5b Exactly! Disabled people are still people, and that is why I included the tweet. I thought it worded it perfectly!
@maddieschadeyy @psyc220 #CD5b@maddieschadeyy @psyc220 I like how you bring up the problem of accessible seating in classrooms bc that is something that I as an able-bodied person would have never thought of. That just shows how often even the little things in regards to accessibility get overlooked
@JordynCrane123 @psyc220 #CD5b @psyc220 @JordynCrane123 I really like how you bring this up because this is something I never would have even thought of! It goes back to the exploitation aspect of inspiration porn where it is used to make non-disabled people feel better
@vansicjl @psyc220 #CD5a @psyc220 @vansicjl I think it's crazy that larger society doesn't see how it can be insulting to celebrate a disabled person for simply going about life like everyone else does. It creates this 'otherness' that can do so much more harm than good
@hargraer @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD5a@hargraer I totally agree with what you said! It also makes me think of how many buildings are only handicap accessible at one entrance, so that someone who may need such an entrance would have to go around the whole building to get in!
#CD5a @psyc220 A way that JMU creates barriers for people with disabilities is seen in the lack of handicap parking spots on campus. To add to this, even when certain lots have these spaces, they can still be pretty far away from one's destination.
