.@Chikwe_I and I just met with Health Minister @ViktorLiashko to discuss the health needs across #Ukraine. The Minister shared his concerns over attacks on health infrastructure, especially on the medicine supply chain, which deprives people of access even to basic medicines. @WHO continues to call for the protection of health care and health facilities everywhere. We will continue to support the delivery of health care in 🇺🇦, and preparedness for another challenging winter with energy disruption to hospitals. #WHS2026
The #hantavirus outbreak aboard the MV Hondius tested our collective ability to respond to a rapidly evolving health emergency.
@WHO, #Spain and many more countries and partners turned a moment of uncertainty into a demonstration of what we can achieve when we work together to protect people's health.
The lesson is clear: infectious disease threats require coordinated responses. Also, no country can do it alone, however strong it is or thinks it is.
Solidarity is our best immunity!

A child’s first days of life can be the most fragile.
It was inspiring to learn more about @DorisMollel Foundation’s work to give newborns in #Tanzania the best possible start in life, while supporting the health and well-being of mothers.
@WHO is committed to working with partners to strengthen newborn care and help more mothers and babies survive and thrive. #HealthForAll
Congratulations to dear friends of mine, Professor @MTamfum and Professor Peter Piot on receiving @virchowprize 2026.
Together, they have helped transform our understanding of infectious diseases and strengthened the world's capacity to detect, investigate and respond to outbreaks.
The careers of Professors Muyembe and Piot show what is possible when scientific excellence is matched by determination, collaboration and solidarity.
Thank you for your lifelong service to protecting and promoting health.
Nothing symbolizes #Germany’s support more than its hosting of part of @WHO right here in Berlin: the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence.
At the #WHS2026, I reiterate our ambition that, through this Hub, by 2030, every country will be able to detect and understand any new health threat within 24 hours of its emergence
To get there, we will build on trusted digital foundations and harness new tools, including AI-powered simulation, to turn early signals into early action.
I thank Germany for its steadfast commitment and leadership, as well as our founding partners, the @rki_de and @ChariteBerlin for their continued support.
In a connected world, health security cannot be built country by country. It must be built together.
Arrived in Berlin to attend the @WorldHealthSmt. First meeting with Health Minister Mustapha Ferjani about #Tunisia’s investment in telemedicine and the health system digital transformation and how @WHO can support. I thanked the Minister for 🇹🇳’s continued commitment to finalise the Pandemic Agreement annex on Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing. #WHS2026
Congratulations to the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Fiocruz, for the landmark achievement of receiving authorization to undertake clinical trials for #Brazil’s first domestically developed mRNA vaccine.
This milestone reflects Brazil’s scientific excellence and growing leadership in health innovation. Fiocruz is also the first partner in @WHO’s Global mRNA Technology Transfer Programme to advance an mRNA product to clinical trials.
WHO remains committed to working closely with Brazil and our partners to strengthen local and regional mRNA manufacturing capacities, expand equitable access to vaccines and other medical countermeasures, and build a more resilient future for health in Brazil, the region, and beyond.

Good news from @WHO ahead of the weekend: people are living longer.
Global life expectancy reached 73.3 years in 2023, almost fully recovering the years lost during COVID-19: https://t.co/VfL3IREsT6
Now we must make sure people don’t just live longer, but live those extra years in good health. #HealthForAll
Held a wide-ranging meeting with Sjoerd Sjoerdsma, Netherlands Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, on Dutch-@WHO collaboration in responding to the Ebola outbreak in DRC, addressing health needs in Gaza, and ensuring sustainable financing for WHO’s work.
We agreed on the importance of an evidence-based approach to advancing women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive health, and strengthening global collaboration to better protect the world from future pandemics.
On Gaza, we discussed efforts to evacuate Palestinians requiring urgent medical care outside the Strip, and the need to scale up these operations to meet immense needs.
I also appreciated the Minister’s recognition of the tireless efforts of WHO colleagues working under challenging conditions in DRC to bring the Ebola outbreak under control as quickly as possible.

Maternal deaths have fallen 40% and child deaths more than halved in 25 years. But progress is slowing, and millions of preventable deaths continue.
Austerity is not an excuse. It is a test.
This #UNGA, my call to world leaders: protect and finance health services for women, children and adolescents. Their lives cannot be a budget cut.
The #Ebola virus had a head start in the #DRC, and we are still playing catch-up.
The response is growing stronger and we are seeing encouraging signs. But this epidemic is far from over.
My update on the progress, challenges and what it will take to stop it ⬇️

Formation. Recherche. Innovation.
This focus on preparedness is exactly what leaders should be doing, given the forecasts for how El Niño will impact different parts of the world in coming months.
@WHO has advice on how health systems could be affected, and how to mitigate these potential impacts: https://t.co/uEIFDrnPKL https://t.co/NFVcNpo4ti
Congratulations to my friend @MikeBloomberg on his reappointment as @WHO Global Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries, marking 10 years of partnership and impact.
From tobacco control and road safety to data for health and now lead poisoning, your leadership has helped put the prevention higher on the global agenda.
Thank you, Mike. I look forward to continuing our work together to save lives and build a healthier future for all. #UNGA
No one said multilateralism is easy. Nor is it perfect.
Our shared vulnerabilities have not disappeared. If anything, they have become more apparent.
But vulnerability can be a source of division or a source of solidarity.
The choice is ours.
The future will not be secured by stronger walls between nations. It will be secured by stronger trust between them.
