The United States of Biafra Mission in Norway wishes to inform the good people of Biafra, the good people of Norway, and the international community that our petition is now officially before the Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget). Copies of the petition have also been respectfully submitted to the Norwegian Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Prime Minister, and the Norwegian immigration authorities.

The petition addresses, among other matters, the continuing human rights violations and war crimes against the Biafran population by the Nigerian regime, as well as the continuity of Biafran nationality, identity and government notwithstanding the unlawful annexation and continued occupation of our homeland. In this regard, we invoke the established legal maxim ex injuria jus non oritur -- a legal right cannot arise from an unlawful act or injustice.

Other substantive matters contained in the petition will remain confidential at this stage.

Next week, a formal communication concerning our petition and the plight of the Biafran people will also be respectfully addressed to His Majesty King Harald V of Norway, the current King and Head of State of the Kingdom of Norway.

As Norway considers our petition, we respectfully recall the remarkable discussions concerning Biafra that took place in the Expanded Foreign Affairs and Constitutional Committee of the Norwegian Parliament on 22 August 1968: https://t.co/vpFxiwtTBA

Those discussions demonstrate that Norway was deeply engaged with the Biafran tragedy. The Norwegian Government confirmed that it had received representatives of the Biafran Government and had undertaken extensive humanitarian and diplomatic efforts. Members of the committee debated recognition of Biafra, Biafra's right to self-determination, the Nigerian military blockade, allegations of genocide, humanitarian access, intervention through the United Nations, and possible consideration of the matter by the UN Security Council and General Assembly:

1. Biafra was described as a major and unresolved tragedy
2. Norway had already committed substantial humanitarian assistance
3. The central humanitarian problem was Nigeria's military blockade of Biafra
4. Norway was directly pressuring Nigeria to allow humanitarian relief
5. There was serious discussion of bringing Biafra before the UN Security Council
6. Recognition of Biafra was explicitly debated
7. Biafra had formally appealed to Norway
8. Biafra argued that recognition had actually promoted negotiations
9. The Norwegian Foreign Minister expressly acknowledged Biafran self-determination
10. Genocide was explicitly raised
11. An extraordinary UN General Assembly was proposed
12. The International Red Cross and unauthorized humanitarian flights were discussed
13. Britain's role was questioned
14. Norwegian public opinion strongly favored action for Biafra

Of particular significance, Norway's then Foreign Minister, John Lyng, acknowledged that the political question had to be resolved in a manner that gave the population of Biafra the right of self-determination.

The question of recognizing Biafra was also seriously debated. Prime Minister Per Borten informed the committee that representatives of the Biafran Head of State had personally appealed to Norway to act, warning of enormous loss of life through both bullets and starvation. He further recorded Biafra's position that Tanzania's recognition of Biafra had helped bring the parties to the negotiating table. Borten himself observed that the Biafran tragedy had similarities with other peoples' struggles for freedom.

Members of the Norwegian parliamentary committee also challenged the characterization of the Biafran conflict as merely an “internal affair,” arguing that such formal considerations should not prevent international action where human lives were at stake. Gunnar Garbo argued that formal considerations concerning interference in another state's internal affairs should give way to the elementary humanitarian imperative of saving human lives, while Aase Lionæs called for the matter to be brought before the UN Security Council and, if necessary, the General Assembly.

Norway also provided substantial humanitarian assistance to Biafra during the war. For this humanitarian solidarity, the Biafran people remain grateful to the Kingdom and people of Norway.

Yet the historical lesson of Biafra cannot remain confined to 1967–1970.

Today, we maintain that the Biafran population continues to face grave and systematic human rights violations. The international community therefore has another opportunity to demonstrate that the suffering of the Biafran people will not once again be met with silence, delay or political expediency.

We are optimistic that our petition before the Norwegian Parliament will be considered with the seriousness and urgency that the circumstances demand. We respectfully call upon Norway to draw upon its own humanitarian history, the concerns expressed by Norwegian leaders and parliamentarians in 1968, and its longstanding commitment to human rights and international law.

The mistakes and regrets of the past must become lessons for the present.

The international community must act to protect human life and ensure that the Biafran people are never again subjected to mass starvation, destruction or the threat of extermination while the world watches.

The time to act is now.

Finland broke the law of estoppel (watch 3 videos)

From November 2024 to date when Finland government arrested, removed and jailed Simon Ekpa, over 3,000 (three thousand) Biafrans have been either killed or forcefully removed by the terrorist state of Nigeria headed by President Tinubu.

The killings and forceful removals of innocent Biafrans by Nigeria headed by President Tinubu was what Simon Ekpa was fighting to stop

These facts have been confirmed and condemned by world leaders and court rulings from the United States of America, Canada, Kenya, Nigeria etc.; other international organizations such as the UN, OEAS, AEI - Michael Rubin, Amnesty International, Pan African Forum Ltd., and others have reiterated exactly the words and recommendations of Simon Ekpa.

After granting estoppel, the party who made a previous representation or promise is legally prevented from contradicting it, ensuring that the initial statement holds binding authority.

Finland recognized the position of Simon Ekpa in Biafra, granted visas and gave immigration passes to Biafrans approved by Simon Ekpa, coming to Lahti Finland for Biafra redeclaration, then turned around to arrest Simon Ekpa and other 4 innocent Biafrans in Finland stating that he Simon Ekpa was inciting Biafrans?

Knowing fully well that the oppressed (Biafrans) has the right to use any means legally possible to stop the oppressor (Nigeria), and that the right to resist occupation and oppression is regarded as a fundamental aspect of the human right to self- determination;

Finland has the blood of innocent Biafra citizens on its hand as a direct consequence of colluding with Nigeria to break the protection they gave to Simon Ekpa

This action exposes the lives of innocent Biafrans who looked up to Simon Ekpa for protection to be massacred by the Nigeria state immediately Simon Ekpa was arrested and beyond.

This transnational repression that has cost lives of Biafrans will not be forgiven or forgotten.

Former US official criticizes Finland over Simon Ekpa’s arrest

A former United States government official has criticised Finland following the arrest of Simon Ekpa, a Finnish-based activist and leader of the Biafran independence movement.

Writing on the American Enterprise Institute website, Michael Rubin @mrubin1971 , a former Pentagon official, accused Finland of undermining its reputation as a global defender of human rights by detaining Ekpa based on what they described as “spurious charges” from the Nigerian government.

Ekpa, the self-proclaimed prime minister-in-exile of Biafra, was arrested last week over allegations of inciting violence in southeastern Nigeria through his activism.

Finnish authorities defended the move, citing their responsibility to address concerns of violence linked to individuals operating within their borders.

However, the former US official argued that Finland’s actions inadvertently supported Nigerian repression against the Igbo people and other marginalized groups advocating for self-determination.

“This is not just about Simon Ekpa. It’s about Finland allowing its judicial system to be weaponized by regimes with questionable human rights records,” Rubin stated.

Meanwhile, Ekpa’s supporters have vowed to continue their push for Biafran independence, urging international bodies to intervene and ensure his immediate release.
