Chemical Restraint of the Agitated Patient
It's one of the most dangerous things we do, for patients and for providers.
Here's how to avoid the major pitfalls...
A thread... 🧵
Yes, and it is now the standard of care and basis for all non-cardiac arrest intubations based on @OMD_MAEMSA protocols for @MedStarEMSInfo and the MAEMSA system. Excellent very early results here and building on @DrJeffJarvis’s work at @wilcoems.
EMCrit 366 - Should Delayed Sequence Intubation (DSI) become the Standard for Critical Care Intubations?
The ? is not rhetorical--I put it out there as a dialectic. Listen to the episode [#FOAMed] and let me know your thoughts.

Why do we ask our BLS clinicians to operate without a critical assessment tool, and the best tool to monitor/verify the effectiveness of the BVM ventilation? The b̶a̶s̶i̶c̶ fundamental skill of BVM is difficult even w/ proper tools.
Time to bring this to the BLS scope

On stage now here in Austin is @hashimzMD, exploring the value of waveform capnography being a BLS skill and identifying patient care scenarios in which its application improves the lifesaving interventions already done by BLS providers. #NAEMSP2024
Always great to partner with my buddy @BMorshediMD to present on our improvement project for the safety and documentation of patient refusals at Dallas Fire-Rescue!

Patient refusals are one of the leading sources of lawsuits in the prehospital environment. In this session, NAEMSP Communications Committee Chair @BMorshediMD and his colleague @BrianMillerMD discuss utilizing audio recordings to document low-risk patient refusals. #NAEMSP2024
Don’t miss the latest episode of the MCHD Paramedic Podcast 360. There is nothing more stressful than seeing EMS peri-arrest progress to pulseless. CARES data suggests that cardiac arrest during transport is not an uncommon event...

@BMorshediMD closing #EaglesGather23@EaglesGather with a key presentation on pediatric behavioral health challenges for #EMS. Great data-supported results of alternative transport model working in Little Rock, Arkansas.
.@DrMackey1 discussing the impact & sheer simplicity of 20 min of cool running water w/in 3 hours of burn injury to make significant improvements in morbidity. Study came from a massive meta-analysis w/11k+ pts! Very impressive numbers! #EaglesGather23

@cpatrick_89@FL_NAEMSP@HandtevyMD@UescopeVL Hahah nah, thanks for the kind words in the talk man! Between the two presentations it was good to have the overview and granular level.
You also gave me an extra push to relook at tube delivery methods.
Nice work @cpatrick_89! Glad your @FL_NAEMSP talk with Drs. Pepe and @HandtevyMD got posted. Enjoyed the knowledge sharing from ESD11’s implementation of the @UescopeVL and VL recording.

I really like the theme of this year's #EMSWeek. It's getting closer to recognizing the critical value and role of #EMS in the healthcare system, but I had to make a couple edits, of course. #FixedIt#EMSDoc#Medic2MD#EMSisHealthcare#EMSisEssential https://t.co/OP9rApBN9s
