@theicon26 Following you because I was your teammate briefly in Wichita. Airline lost your luggage. You, Jeff Proctor, Chris Falco and myself played pillow football in the Hotel!
1986 FCC vs Merced. Debenedetto with a hard tag at home and it was on. I sprinted out and did a swan dive on to a Merced player threw some punches in the ribs. Not sure what happened after that.
1991. At rec park, Visalia. Bakersfield and FCC. I was on deck w my shin guards on, Keith Rivera went into Chris Saunders in a rundown. Then it was on. 20 minute brawl. I ended up w stitches in the back of my head. Pretty sure I broke someone’s nose. Ugly. Couldn’t happen today.
They are being coached! Unfortunately, the wrong way in my opinion. Not catching under the ball, down on one knee, not catching inside the ball. So called coaches creating drills that are ridiculous. I see so many in high school. Don’t steal, wait for the pass ball!
I've never seen so many damn passed balls and wild pitches in college baseball! Its freaking pitiful! Are these dudes on scholarship? Are coaches coaching them?
What idiot thought this would be a good technique? All this has done is created more pass balls and made catchers more susceptible to injury. Whatever happened to simply framing the ball? Be a balanced catcher with the ability to move and frame the ball properly!
Catchers are not being taught to catch inside the ball which makes for bad framing. Can’t understand why we are trying to make it so difficult. Lately, I’ve seen some of the worst catching that I have ever seen. Catchers are there to make pitchers look better!
The answer to your first question is no! Catchers now are trying to take the ball off the dirt and move it into the strike zone. Result is more pass balls. Dropping to one knee is ridiculous and it inhibits a catcher’s movement.

Can a catcher catch this pitch in a normal stance? Does the catcher have to be on a knee to move the ball up a couple inches? Is the catcher more athletic in this position? @O3jfrye@JWonCATCHING @Catching_Daily @TheCatchingGuy@D1catching@CatchingAcademy
To All Catchers!!!
If I ever have the chance to watch you play and I DON’T notice you, it means that you had a GREAT defensive game!! Dropping balls, chasing balls to the backstop and not being able to throw the ball back to the mound will get you plenty of attention!!!
Been saying this for years. As a former catcher and now umping, never understood why coaches have their catchers set up 2 feet off the outside corner or throw a fastball head high. Those add up when you are on a pitch count!
Putting a guy away w a pitch out of the zone requires a swing and miss. If a hitter takes it, it may be considered a “waste pitch’” I guess. But hitters are more likely to swing at those w 2K. Hard to argue w a guy like Maddox. Chances are he got the punch out.
Drills do not make players better. Doing the drills properly make them better. I’ve watched as many coaches do drills but don’t make corrections during the drill. This happens most in travel ball.
Working with a 9 yr old catcher today, was told by him that he knew the drill I was preparing to do and then watched him butcher it. Mom’s and Dad’s teach your kids to listen to teachers, coaches please! “I know” is not an answer. I want to see, show me!
@RealJamesWoods LOL!!! I Did the same thing... These losers when they realize what they've done pull their posts... Best to rip the video and re-post so there's always a record.
