In North Carolina, clearance rates for violent crimes remains below 50%. That means less than half of the violent crimes that are reported to police are ever solved.
It's hard to say that more efforts to enhance punishment in NC will serve as an effective deterrent when the public knows there's less than a 50% chance, they'll never get caught. #ncpol #smartoncrime #ncga #solutions
Clearance rates helps measure how often crimes are solved. In Texas, roughly 2 out of every 3 homicides are cleared. For sexual assaults, it's closer to 1 in 4.
Each statistic represents a victim, family, and community still waiting for justice.
