@RhaenyraTruther It remains very weird how certain “fans” of ASOIAF cling so hard to these strict ideas of succession as if GRRM was endorsing them when the whole point he is making is how stupid and destructive these kinds of rules are.
i think people underestimate how much this show helped normalize gay couples / parents in american households in the early 2010s… like this is how the atlantic covered gay marriage being legalized 😭
Today marks 250 years since a small group of newspaper editors, farmers, and soldiers signed a document declaring our nation’s independence — a truth that feels self-evident now but was revolutionary then.
What a privilege us Americans have, to live in a nation that every one of its inhabitants can shape. What an honor us New Yorkers have, to look out over our city’s waters from the shores where so many Americans bravely entered their country for the first time.
Today and all days, let us remember that patriotism is not pretending our nation is without flaws. Patriotism is every act of righteous dissent — because loving our country means fighting for the best version of it.
Happy Fourth of July, New York City.
@Vivec_the_Poet Relatedly I feel like Charles Dance’s incredible performance is part of why the show started struggling in Season 5. He was such a presence and driving force of the drama that everything in Kings landing felt way less interesting with him gone.
The issue with Natla isn't that it changes things. It's that it refuses to commit to those changes. It wants to cash in on the OG's iconic lines and moments, but they don't hit nearly the same because the characters and story are fundamentally different.
@north0fnorth 1893 has lots going for it. Big event after the fire. You have Devil in the White City which pretty much everybody who went to high school or undergrad in Chicago is required to read. Helps to have a crazy mass murder story as well to make it more well known and memorable.
@RedRaxus This anti-Andor trend is really weird and is just people who clearly did not watch or pay attention. Cassian has that big monologue with Luthen about how the Empire is so big and self satisfied and overconfident and the show then demonstrates he was right and people don’t get it
@BpopeTV The internet and Twitter in particular has made me so cynical that I almost can’t believe this is earnest/real because they are just so sweet and fun and the internet is a black hole of disappointment.
@capybaroness Yeah i mean especially the more recent Bonds. Craig, Brosnen, Dalton, those movies very much play on the fact he is a weapon who does some espionage not the other way around.
allowing one of the most historic franchises in North American sports to pack up out of Chicago and move to Hammond, Indiana just so Bears ownership can wring out some extra dollars from a new stadium deal should, in an ideal world, make Roger Goodell a national laughingstock
@retneysholocron Nothing against you or the novel which I havnt read, but it’s pretty wild the huge amount of work various novels and other media have to go to correct issues created by how Lucas approached the prequels.
I like positive and optimistic Star Wars fans like Jacob who just posts about how much he loves Star Wars and hypes the franchise while staying away from the worst aspects of the fandom. Having said that - putting Rise of Skywalker as your number one is just wild to me.
Since everyone is sharing their Star Wars rankings again after watching The Mandalorian & Grogu, I figured that I would do the same!
Honestly, the more I think about The Mandalorian & Grogu, the higher it gets on my list. Love all of these movies so much ❤️
On balance Disney has produced good Star Wars. Force Awakens. Rouge One. Solo. Mando Seasons 1 & 2. Skeleton Crew. All are great fun. Even the flawed/controversial ones like Last Jedi, Acolyte, and Ahsoka have lots of good elements. And that’s just live action. Rebels is great
I think ESB is still my favorite but it’s a close call with ANH. I think it’s also probably the most accessible and enjoyable SW movie for more casual fans. When I ever I do a rewatch (and force my husband to watch them again with me) he usually enjoys rewatching ANH the best.
@jetinarround Not only did they fumble it, but they did it in a couple random episodes in an entirely different spin off show. Imagine telling somebody “actually in order to understand s3 first you need to watch episodes 5 and 6 of a show about Boba Fett.”
Is it just me or has the introduction of Co-Pilot into Word somehow made the already bad grammar-checking even worse. I feel like Word is telling me to change words to other complete different options that make absolutely no sense and completely change the meaning of my sentence.
