Welcome home USS Gerald R. Ford, USS Bainbridge and USS Mahan! After a historic 11-month deployment across four different areas of operation, our Sailors have returned to Naval Station Norfolk.
Over 4,500 warriors from the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group—serving aboard the USS Ford, USS Bainbridge, and USS Mahan—have completed a 326-day historic deployment marked by extraordinary endurance and service, including the birth of 76 children during the deployment.
Today, we proudly welcome our American heroes home.
An air wing plane captain signals during flight operations aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). Plane captains, wearing brown shirts, are responsible for the safety and integrity of aircraft, including pre- and post-flight preparation.
All four of the Artemis II astronauts have been successfully extracted from the Orion spacecraft following splashdown and are now on the USS John P. Murtha. Next up, they will be escorted to the medical bay where they will undergo post-mission medical evaluations.

The Artemis II mission launched from @NASAKennedy at 6:35pm ET (2235 UTC), propelling four astronauts on a journey around the Moon.
Artemis II will pave the way for future Moon landings, as well as the next giant leap — astronauts on Mars.
The world’s largest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, arrived in Split, Croatia for a port visit March 28.
