15 papers I've reviewed recently, about 20% were well written, 30% had AI-polished writing but still made a real contribution, and 50% didn't contribute much.
For that 30%, I asked the authors in my reviews to clarify their work more clearly.
The dilemma we're in now is that AI polishing, even fairly light polishing, makes papers harder to understand.
I know some tools try to "humanize" text by changing sentence structure. But I don't think that can solve the problem.
AI-polished papers are also harder to revise. That makes an efficient editing tool more necessary than ever, and Overleaf doesn’t do a good job.

Paper published!! This one took us on a long journey 😉 I remember when Paul Moorcroft and I started discussing this work in 2015, and writing a first draft 6 years ago. Now it is finally published in JGR-Biogeosciences and still up to date: https://t.co/SzmtyFxFhR

My student Kayo Yin needs your help. Her visa has been unnecessarily delayed, which would prevent her from coming to UC Berkeley to start her studies. Despite bringing all required documents, the @StateDept refused to process the visa and it could take months to re-process.
In about 2-3 weeks I’ll be moving across the country for my PhD program. Does anyone who has been in this position have some advice on what they wish they knew or tips? I’d love to hear what others learned or what I can expect🤓
New paper out today with coauthors @sturtevant25 @yboulanger2 @PhilTownsnd and several others @NRCan @cflscf and @usfs_nrs!
