@CDNPolicyHawk Are we not losing capabilities, namely the ability to operate out of short, unpaved gravel or Arctic ice strips, and the low-speed, low-altitude tactical refueling performance inherent to a turboprop design?
@NoahGairn My question is what will happen to our current fleet of Frankenstein Leo 2s?
Will we use them as target practice only to realize shortly after that they were urgently needed by our allies?
@MooseAnony34735@AlexHollings52 A) Gripen greatly reduces reliance on USA. Way more control over manufacturing & integration.
B) USA can unilaterally block future F-35 upgrades.
C) Everything is harder in the cold. Gripen is explicitly built to run off remote, frozen airstrips with minimal infrastructure.
@secretsqrl123@Timcast Your refusal to "vote for a Dem" shows just how screwed up your country is. Getting Trump out of office is just the most urgent priority in a long list of problems.
@JessieTweeting I can't wrap my head around the fact that we are not world leaders in affordable long range ISR drones for land, sea and air.
I mean that is not a "new" need that suddenly surfaced in Ukraine.
@CJOC_COIC Congrats! Hopefully next time you'll be testing more relevant weapons like drones of all types (FPV, munition dropping, loitering, AI enabled).
@Bone348@NoahGairn As a mostly franco Quebecer, I always thought that naming rivers based on whether they discharge in a sea/ocean or not was ridiculous. Especially since historical names don't always respect that convention.
And now we're stuck with "Le destroyer de la classe Fleuves et rivières"?
@ColbyBadhwar@Arrogant_Swede Don't know about the others, but Canada's competition was designed to favour the F-35.
"Hey government, look our favourite plane just won the contest we designed to make it win!"
Mixed fleet and start work on a Canadian stealth drone designed for the North.
@MidOfficer While I agree with the idea, I really don't agree with the example.
Sending horsy guards to the palace is pretty much the last thing we should be spending money on.
@northdud Sweden and Brazil are using 8K as an estimated CPFH. Switzerland includes everything in their estimate, including facilities.
And that 25K Lockheed figure is in 2012 money.
Comparing apples to oranges.
