In January 2026, Canada and the United States (US) finalized a government-to-government agreement under the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Program for the acquisition of long-range missile capability for the CAF. For more information: https://t.co/m2TpVyfm1z
@MapleChaos000@NoahGairn likewise on how F-35 magically became the one thing that's been singled out by government. but not Aegis, or P8, or CQ-9 or any other US made of piece of kit that we are actively procuring.

there's obviously been some form of a report since August of last year that recommends to purchase all 88 aircraft. I understand the governments perspectives on the jobs front. but I don't agree on using very much needed equipment as leverage.
@MapleChaos000@NoahGairn I don't hold a lot of sympathy for those who have regret in letting that Anti-American message spread. there were multiple off ramps to stop this from happening. For starters they could have released the full report when they promised.
@MapleChaos000@NoahGairn I don't disagree that the institutions policy is definitely about job creation. my point being there is a disconnect from how these people in policy making positions view the fighter review verses the rhetoric that is coming out from the government about the fighter review.
@DisneyTory@ACHFraser there's also alot of technical problems with global eye. I'm willing to give saab the benefit of the doubt but the lack of MADL data link to talk to F-35, and it being able to plug into NORAD C2 are also concerns as well as the lack of AAR.
@edhollett@NoahGairn there is alot more then what we need to play with what the Americans are playing with and be fully integrated with Americans. but individuals like yourself have no interest in listening to the experts who will actually be operating the type your quick to dismiss them as Mafia.
FWIW: a mixed fleet has the potential to be crippling for the RCAF. Politics aside, standardization and future generation tech is what we should be looking at.
Bonus thought: the Global Eye unless procured in significant numbers is wrong. E7 commonality with the P8 is smarter.
@RobertClark62@MLB120012@CDNPolicyHawk there will be thousands of F-35s flying for decades. Lockheed makes more F-35s a year then overall gripens manufacturered over all variants and there would need to be a mass exodus of F-35 operators something of which the opposite has happened.
@DisneyTory I do wish we could have a serious conversation over the real consequences about this decision. especially in terms of it crippling the RCAF without accusing people who have skin in the game of being lockheed shills or whatever accusations certain individuals throw around.
@RobertClark62@MLB120012@CDNPolicyHawk with all due respect they company they are partnering with can't even tell us that the jobs numbers that saab provided are correct.
@waynejv1973@DivebumChef@ThomasWatsonCD because its more survivable then 4.5 gens in the current battle space and will be way more surviable in the 2030s and beyond.
@MLB120012@CDNPolicyHawk its disturbing that some choose to listen to the job promises from saab even though they have demonstratedly been proven to over promise and under deliver. We gain no independence from this, no reduced reliance on the Americans. yet people still will blindly accept job numbers.
