New study shows relationship between intestinal dysbiosis and neurological symptoms in LC 🦠🧠

This is pretty impressive!

Over the years, we have seen some Long COVID patients report dramatic improvements with microbiome-based interventions. This study provides a possible explanation as to why.

Here, Canadian researchers demonstrated that Long COVID is associated with a microbiome signature that promotes neuroinflammation.

First, they identified the microbiome profile of LC patients with neurological symptoms.

They then collected stool samples from LC patients and transplanted these samples into germ-free mice.

👉After receiving the transplants, the mice developed intestinal barrier disruption and neuroinflammatory symptoms.

Why did this happen?

Specifically, the researchers examined the role of gut bacterial extracellular vesicles (GBEV). These are signalling molecules released by gut bacteria in order to communicate with other and influence their host environment.

Researchers measured these GBEV's in the bloodstream of the mice, post-transplant - and found that the circulating GBEV's are responsible for many of the biological changes observed.

Chronic inflammation was thought to increase with age.
It does.
But there’s a plot twist.

A new study published in Nature Aging compared 4 geographically and genetically distant groups:
+ industrialized societies (Italy and Singapore)
+ indigenous communities (Bolivian Amazon and rural Malaysia)

Chronic inflammation, also known as “inflammaging” markers increased with age only in the 2 industrial groups.

For the 2 indigenous cohorts, inflammation was driven by active infections and parasites. Inflammaging markers did not predict age-related diseases (cardiovascular, kidney, metabolic disease) in this community.

The results suggest age-related inflammation is neither universal nor predestined to our biology. It’s an outcome of poor lifestyle choices in modern societies, and very likely preventable.

Is Anthropic’s CEO crazy or are software developers in denial? Dario Amodei says that in the next 3 to 6 months, AI will be writing 90% of the code, and in 12 months, nearly all code may be generated by AI. Yet most developers I talk to say that this is years away and might never happen. They often say that AI is good for enhancing their skills but is not great at writing whole features or products.

There is a smaller number of developers (much smaller—tiny, actually) who are starting to speak up and say that the industry is in denial, change is coming, and it will be huge. They say that developers are just too "lazy" to change their ways as the tech is not that easy to use. I honestly can't tell, because on both sides, there are people I know personally, and I trust them both.
