"Due to the rules by which I entered, once I'm done I will leave politics. Once I finish either my first term or my second term, I will no longer be in politics.

The day I finish this I plan on going to live in a ranch by myself, with my dogs, and devote myself to writing and giving lectures.

Actually, since I live right now in this 69-acre presidential place and there is this shed where they kept the tools, I've renovated it and I've gone to live there.

I've already discovered what gives me happiness in life, and I act according to it.

Generally some people want power out of greed, out of last, or out of ego. Well, fortunately I have no problems on greed, nor lust; and my approach to Judaism, and my admiration for Moses, keeps my ego in check all the time.

So, I take this as a job. I've come here only for the glory. I'm interested in making history. I shall write the pages of history that the Argentine people allow me to, and then I'll change jobs.

The Hasmonean’s adoption of Greek cultural elements was not a sign of cultural weakness—of relinquishing or rejecting Judean culture.
To the contrary, it was a sign of strength.
It signalled sovereignty within the larger Hellenistic world.

Mulling over my visit to Gaza today but one thing really struck me from conversations with the IDF frontline soldiers I met.

Almost all of them expressed sadness at the “tragedy” (their words, not mine) unfolding in Gaza. None of them said they want to have to do the job they’ve been given, but they all understand that it needs doing and they were stepping up to secure their country.

Many of them expressed huge sympathy for the Palestinian civilians caught between them and Hamas. But, as one said, “It’s a war”. (And literally every possible metric suggests they’re doing a good job at protecting the lives of those Palestinian civilians. They’re proud of how few have died compared to the number of Hamas fighters killed - that unprecedented 1:1 ratio means a lot to them.)

Their attitude was regretful but determined. Notably, not one expressed any desire for revenge or any hatred. They could not have been further from the vengeful maniacs portrayed by those who take their news only from social media.

Were they perfect? No. Were they obviously reservists? Honestly, yes. But they were young men and women doing their job with a quiet determination.

(And, before anyone says it, this was the least stage-managed and most chaotic visit I’ve ever seen. Our small team of three were the only ones on the trip, and it was a super-fastball only confirmed late this morning. It occurred whilst a major manoeuvre op was going on. They literally had to trawl the camp for English speakers to talk to us at zero notice. Half the troops we spoke to obviously had no idea who we were and didn’t expect to see us there.)

You did nothing to help Hersh or the others. You didn’t visit a single hostage in Gaza. The least you can do now is condemn Hamas for murdering civilians. Each murder is a war crime under the Geneva Conventions. So was their captivity and torture for more than 300 days. Say so.

This is the same Cas Holloway who personally blocked me from entering campus on April 22.
