@JohnLeePettim13 It wouldn't be super hard for a person to subvert the system and vote as a non-citizen if they really wanted to. But non-citizen voting at a scale to influence the results, that's not happening. The logistics would be insane and one whistleblower would be enough to stop it.
@JesseMatchey The girl probably had the technical skill to fly the plane but lacked the life skills to tell the senior officer "let's turn around" when the situation was getting bad. It's not about gender at all, not too many 20 year olds would make that call, regardless of gender.
@foscaecon For most of the last century Russia's greatest natural resource was its people. But due to the current leadership that is now a thing of the past.
@ConciousLabRat Where people from around the world want to study, and so on. Instead they focused on military expansionism, and we can see the results now.
@ConciousLabRat Only because the Russian leadership have an antiquated mindset. In the last 20 years Russia could have built a thriving society integrated with the rest of the world, with companies where the best and brightest want to work and do business with, universities
@ConciousLabRat If Russia had built a country with a good standard of living and democratic government they wouldn't have needed to use military aggression to keep Ukraine in their "sphere of influence." That's the bottom line. Russia's government of corrupt fools ruined their country.
@corpmarxist Just think about the bureaucracy - one family is Muslim and doesn't eat pork, one has an allergy to eggs, one had an emegency and missed their delivery this week, so on times 10 million. Cash transfers to let them get what they need is much more efficient.
@ConciousLabRat Nobody in the West really cared when it was localized to the Donbas and Crimea. It's when they invaded parts of the country where there's clearly little or no popular support for joining Russia.
@trumwill I'm sure she meant well with it, something like the attraction grew as she got to know the guy better, as opposed to feeling super attracted at first but losing interest because the guy was a douche. However it was phrased extremely badly.
@DACom3D@connors_touch@thedrbryte Actually this can happen. Your ex wants to stay in the marital home but can't buy you out. In lieu of selling and you getting half the proceeds, the judge can reduce your support until covered. If you say "I want the money" and then proceed to blow it on coke and hookers
@justjargons They do at the margins. If you're about to commit a robbery and see a cop roll by, you probably won't do it. But yeah, adding police probably less cost effective than some other crime reduction methods.
@BLwifey She meant it like "I didn't feel strong chemistry right away, but now I do after our relationship has deepened, and I wouldn't trade you for anyone else" but the way she put it came across different. I don't think the dude should break up with her, but I see why he's upset.
@_ayandamay Separate issues. Case 1: "i was drunk so i'm not responsible for my actions" not true legally. Case 2: "i was drunk I shouldn't be held to things that I agreed to" not true as a general principle, but some grey area depending on how drunk you were and the overall situation.
@SaltMitaka It's like telling your wife "if I was at the strip club I wouldn't get a lap dance from you, but I still love you." Not really a great idea to say that to your partner.
@marx1verstappen@justjargons The point is any economic system is subject to collapse under certain conditions. Some Russians might be nostalgic for the Soviet times only because Putin's system is so bad, but not the overwhelming majority, and certainly not too many Latvians, Georgians, Uzbeks, etc.
