You weren’t abused because you’re too weak, too naive, or too sensitive.
You weren’t abused because you sometimes get things wrong.
You weren’t abused because you’re annoying or hard to love.
You weren’t abused because you’re a people pleaser.
You weren’t abused because you attract the wrong people.
You were abused because someone chose to abuse you.
No matter what struggles you have or vulnerabilities you carry, the blame is not yours.
The responsibility lies with the person who caused harm.
The shame isn’t yours to carry. It never was.

At first, you tell yourself it’s not that bad—you just have to be careful, to avoid the things that set them off.
You analyze every word before you speak, weigh every action before you move. You try to anticipate the shift in their tone, the tension in their jaw, the silence that means trouble is coming.

But no matter how careful you are, no matter how much you adjust, it’s never enough. The rules change without warning, and what was safe yesterday is dangerous today.

So you shrink yourself, smaller and smaller, hoping to take up less space, to be less of a target.
Real love doesn’t make you shrink. Real love makes you feel seen, heard, and safe exactly as you are.
