Research by IRRBB specialists reveals banks’ interest rate risk can fall through the cracks in Basel’s ‘supervisory outlier test’

Pleased to share our new paper on Interest Rate Risk Stress testing!

We have developed a new quantitative method to comprehensively search Interest Rate space, identify all areas of vulnerability and asses the resilience of any given bank’s balance sheet

The second paper from my #PhD has just been published by @PhysRevFluids. What a great way to end the week! 🎉🎊
Thermal boundary layers (TBL) control many aspects of convecting systems and we try to accurately measure the size of these TBL.
You heard of Quasi-Geostrophy, but have you heard of Plesio-Geostrophy? 🤪 This new paper describes a new mathematical model that we will use to explore interannual dynamics of the Earth's outer core. Tests being currently run!

Congratulations! to Dr @RobdoesPHYSICS on successfully passing his PhD viva today. He's done a fantastic job throughout his studies and I'm sure more good science is to come. A shame we can't have the usual celebrations, but raising a virtual glass. 🍾🥂
Excited and delightful to start as a postdoc research associate at the @OxUniMaths in @UniofOxford joining the @WCMBlog and OCIAM group. I'll be working on mathematical modelling of cell therapies for liver disease funded by @The_MRC. More to come soon...
An excellent end to the week: @ColinMHardy submitted his PhD thesis "Magnetostrophic analysis of Earth's internal magnetic field." It was a genuine pleasure to work with him on it. Well done!
Stefano Maffei @StefanoMaffei and Chris Davies @ChrisDaviesGeo take a deep dive to the outer core to explore how this interacts with the mantle to generate & shape the Earth's magnetic field! 🧭🧲Read the whole magnetic story👇@SEELeeds@EuroGeosciences https://t.co/bK1Nh1giBr
🌟JOB⭐️Work with me in @SEELeeds@UniversityLeeds developing high-res dynamo models to analyse rapid magnetic field changes and constrain deep mantle processes. Up to 4 yrs funding from @NERCscience. Deadline: 7th Oct. Please spread the word/contact me!

We now have UK COVID-19 testing data up to 2nd Sept.
This chart shows 7-day rolling averages for cases (people positive), tests processed under pillars 1 & 2 and the positivity rate based on cases/tests.
The 7-day rolling positivity rate as of yesterday was 0.83%.
Very happy to see this paper come out in @NatureComms. We asked the question: how fast can Earth's magnetic field change direction? The answer is "pretty fast" - perhaps up to 10 degrees per year if you're near the equator. A rather longer answer is here: https://t.co/7qJbWdWkLy
@AdsCondron It's a balance between those to conflicting factors of course. If the number of contacts you have does not increase by more than the factor that the number infected has fallen then it will not be 'much more dangerous', no.
