Congrats to our 2023 GLFC travel award winners: Hannah Postma, Courtney Taylor, and Les Warren. Check out Hannah and Courtney’s talks at #IAGLR2023 this week! Les will be presenting later this summer at #AFS2023#GreatLakesSci
#whitefish are tiny when they hatch! No wonder females lay thousands of eggs in the hopes that a few make it to adulthood. We spent a great few days with the folks from the Sault Tribe Hatchery on the UP in Michigan as they welcomed thousands of new whitefish into the world!
Look at these #laketrout and tell me fish don’t have personalities? They're playful, curious - and maybe a little randy😜 We caught these guys gathering to spawn in the fall. Lake trout in the #greatlakes are on the upswing after nearly collapsing in the 40s/50s bc of #sealamprey
The march of the invasive round goby through the @TrentSevernNHS continues. The fish ecology course here in @Trentbiology has been collecting fish in the Otonabee River around @TrentUniversity for 25 straight years. This week, we caught gobies in the course for the first time.
New paper on food web change in Lk Huron! Scale samples dating back to 1940s used to measure stable isotopes of nearshore & offshore fishes. Unprecedented change following dreissenid invasion. Lake whitefish were the most impacted. Collab with @not_Klaatu https://t.co/dBJ8ApU8Up
Happy to be out in the field again on beautiful Georgian Bay after a two year hiatus. Out with my research tech and soon to be MSc student Courtney Taylor @Courtne11467791
