@andrewmccalip Besides the very neat placement, what do you think made your approach work that Brave browser's rewards failed with? Theirs is similar: get paid for watching ads while browsing. Is it just that people hated crypto in their browser so much?
My group at Science has been running a big campaign to engineer new channelrhodopsins.
Excited to share the first results from it today: a suite of highly sensitive new opsins.
We call them "WAChRs".
Everyday indoor office lighting is enough to activate them pretty strongly.
@DavidAMarkowitz The depth is only 900um. Only relevant for cortex, and seems pretty similar to COSMOS from Deisseroth group published back in 2020. Very impressive, but still far from whole brain
@hhlee How feasible would it be to modify filamentous cyanobacteria like Anabaena to act as electric eel electrocytes in these reactors? Seems like engineering voltage sensitivity into septal junctions is the only hurdle in the way of making it a carbon negative electricity source...
