@s8mb This feels like one of those policies (if implemented) that doesn’t received enough scrutiny and could have *such* a negative impact on Labour brand for a generation
@BernoulliDefect The reality is we live in an inheritocracy due to our asset bubbles. The dual-finance incomes puts you in a 99th percentile in a city with of 7m people. Reality is unproductive people inherit assets to afford these properties..
@janufooty@FabrizioRomano How have atletico managed to replace Samu (who they didn’t want to sell) with Joao in Gallagher deal? Do they expect to still sell Samu this summer?
@JamesBalliol I don’t think this argument has many legs. The public know teacher pension scheme, as an example, exists. Yet there is still ~such~ teacher shortages. Laws of supply tell us the perk of the pension isn’t enough..
@advanced_ict The teachers to teach CS simply don’t exist. I can imagine econ following the same path without changes to recruitment (despite it being significantly more accessible to teach than CS)
Should those taking part in the recent riots receive sentences that are harsher than usual for that kind of crime?
Should be harsher: 49%
Should be about the same as normal: 39%
Should be more lenient: 4%

@JamesBalliol The product has undeniably deteriorated. I’ve found being incredibly liberal with the block/not interested in this post useful for the algo, but you still get pushed pretty awful content. This wasn’t the case pre-elon. Similarly, bot problem seems far worse.
What if taught: choices have consequences; you can join your friends in class when you’re as polite to the adults as we are to you & when you’re following our reasonable instructions to the letter. Perhaps that’s a more important lesson than any academic curriculum.
Income tax disincentivises labour productivity. Tax choices can boost economic output.
Re-jigging our taxation system so that wealth is taxed via capital gains more and incentivising people to be productive via income tax reform should be a top priority in the UK.
Older Brits should recalibrate their understanding of £100k+ incomes in light of inflation and tax changes:
> £125k income in 2024, after income tax, NI, student loan: £69,264
> £63K in 2007, after income tax and NI: £42,845 -> £70,233 in 2024 £s
@advanced_ict Anecdotally, I’d theorise this is due to the lack of specialist teachers. It’s not unheard of to hear classes having cover for an entire year at GCSE. The course is currently too easy to get a 4/5 via rote learning imo.
