Navigating "corporate speak" isn't easy.
Here's a helpful guide I put together:
"Let me check with my team" = No
"Possibly" = No
"On my roadmap" = Not happening
"This will be done in Q4" = This will be done in Q2 next year
"Disagree and commit" = I hate you
"Per my last email" = Try reading, for once in your life
"Challenging landscape" = We're going out of business, quickly
"Digital transformation" = We're going out of business, slowly
"Let's circle back" = We'll never speak of this again
"Take it offline" = We'll never speak of this again
"30,000 foot view" = I don't know what I'm saying
"Low hanging fruit" = Easy promotion
"Open up the kimono" = HR violation
"We use AI" = We don't use AI
"We use machine learning" = We don't use machine learning
"All hands on deck" = Let's actually try for once, please

Introducing the @sequoia Gen AI Market Map!🌎 We’ve decided to map out this emerging frontier, thanks to all the contributions and feedback we’ve received.
This space is moving quickly – this map is a living document, so keep the suggestions coming! Who else should we include?
When I hear complaints from an Eng Mgr that a senior product engineer has to just sit idle for a few days while waiting on a spec from the PM, I am interested in hearing what’s blocking the PM, but I am a lot more interested in diagnosing the team culture that led to the idleness
@moizali They probably took several courses on “leadership” and “entrepreneurship”, went on a “leadership trip” during the summer, and attended a dozen “leadership seminars” hosted by current/past CEOs.
On a team, the use of the word “product” as a synonym for “product management” or “product managers” correlates highly with trouble.
Example:
When an engineer deflects a UX-related question with “That’s a product question”, implying “Don't ask me. That is a question for the PM”.
Moving your team from slides to long form writing is not just a process change. It is first and foremost a culture change.
A writing culture values comprehension over aesthetics, nuance over certainty, clarity over charisma, deliberation over impulse, and rigor over hierarchy.
"𝗧𝗘𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗠": that’s how District Attorney Chesa Boudin described to the @nytimes the man police say killed 84-year old Vicha Ratanapakdee.
His family is outraged and believes that is “no excuse” for murdering someone. (1/3)
The faster we vaccinate, the quicker we prevent the virus from mutating to a version that existing vaccines DON’T treat.
So stop virtue signaling with these dumb vaccination criteria and start mass vaccination programs. NOW!!
Attacks against Asian-Americans in New York City have soared since the pandemic began, terrifying many and stoking fears of targeted violence. The xenophobia is also compounded by the economic fallout of the pandemic and fears of the coronavirus.

Congratulations to @NASA on the successful landing of the SUV-Sized Perseverance Rover on planet Mars.
Among other things, it carries a drone helicopter — an engineering test of flight, maneuvering, & navigation in the rarified Martian atmosphere.
