of all the pernicious things that have happened over the past few years I think the effective rebranding of January 6 into an event in which the rioters were the ones who were wronged may best symbolize how bad our politics have become.
More proposed amendments from Sen. Cassidy:
An amendment "to prohibit agreements preventing tax audits of the President."
An amendment "to provide compensation to law enforcement officers who defended the United States Capitol ... on January 6, 2021"
NEWS: As Vote-A-Rama nears, Senate expected to take multiple votes on Anti-Weaponization fund:
Amendments include Sen. Cassidy: "To prohibit payments from the ... Fund"
Sen. Tillis: "To reallocate funds that would have been used for the ... Fund to fraud enforcement."
This measure is tricky procedurally. It is not binding unless passed by the Senate, offered to the president and then not vetoed.
So, it is not expected to become law.
But this was a statement - largely but not entirely along partisan lines - against the president's war.
