My formula for success:
Find someone who has already achieved what you want to achieve - someone whose results you trust.
Internalize not only their strategies and tactics, but also their beliefs, mindset, and way of thinking.
Learn to see the world through the lens that produced their success.
Be open to ideas and concepts you disagree with; things that seem strange or different.
Then commit to unconditional persistence in the direction of your dream.
Be patient. Give yourself time to develop. Stay the course long enough for the lessons to take root, the skills to compound, and the results to emerge.
Model success. Trust the process. Persist without condition.
There is no need to fear any problem you are working on. If you are working on it, then you are influencing the outcome.
It's the problems you don't address that should concern you.
Now that everyone has access to the whole accumulated knowledge of mankind, and could in theory easily learn everything they need to know in order to become their best and happiest selves, it's going to become obvious as most people don't change that the problem was never access to knowledge, but intellectual curiosity, good taste when it comes to what they choose to learn, and self-respect when it comes to how they spend their free time.
Remain playful as your responsibilities increase. It's easy to become serious when people and results depend on you, but nearly everyone's performance improves when they proceed lightly through the world.
Happy Birthday America, Land of the Free.
Don’t give up on the First, Second, Fourth, and Ninth Amendments.
They’re unique, and your freedom - and the worlds’ - depends on them.
Be forgiving with your past self. What's done is done. No sense in beating yourself up about it.
Be strict with your present self. Win the moment in front of you right now.
Be flexible with your future self. There are many paths to success. You don't need life to be a certain way to live well.
Decisive defeat. Then elimination of fear. Then rule of law. Then economic revival. Then democracy. Then, if all that works, statehood. Then prosperity in every sense.
.@naval: “If you’re interested in it now, then you’ll be interesting about it later.”
“@DavidDeutschOxf has a great criterion, which he calls the fun criterion.
He says, just do whatever’s fun, and you’ll kind of find your way to it. And there’s a lot to that because that’s what you’ll be most interested in. That’s what you’ll stick with. That’s what you’ll go deepest in. If you’re interested in it now, then you’ll be interesting about it later.
And so I think Deutsch has really a good criterion. I would expand on that for myself: What do I have the most fun doing?
Because fun is a little too broad, right? You could have fun partying and drinking, and that’s fine too. Live your life.
I would say that for me, the fun criterion is the learning criterion. I live for that “aha!” moment when two things that I didn’t realize were connected, connect together. You get that feeling of oneness, and you get closer to source, if you will.
And so, anything that connects two things in my mind that were disconnected, forms a tighter, deeper explanation, and shows me a deeper theory—is fun. And that’s what motivates me.”
Signs that you are in the right direction in life:
1) You actually feel more anxious when you don’t take any risk.
2) You enjoy who you are, but remain ambitious about who you could be.
3) You are doing less, but you are achieving more, because you narrowed down your focus to what you are actually good at.
4) You love being challenged intellectually. You feel grateful when smarter people ask you difficult questions.
5) You don’t worry about missing out: you know that great opportunities will keep coming because you have the self-discipline to get better day after day.
6) You don’t feel lonely when you are alone, because you are focused on a mission that naturally attracts the right people into your life.
7) You actually enjoy time alone, you understand it’s a rare opportunity to invest in yourself and upgrade who you are.
8) You no longer get angry over small things that don’t matter, and you don’t waste your energy on things that won’t make your life better.
9) You are not scared because the future is uncertain, you are excited because it means new opportunities for bold people like you.
