NEW EU CO2 emissions data published:
-2019 shipping emissions were at 133.5m tonnes of CO2, down 6.3% from 2018. Number of ships fell by 5.2%
-Containerships remain the single biggest CO2 source
-The numbers will change; see 2018 database that was updated today for the 217th time

The Union of Greek Shipowners, together with the Swedish Shipowners' Association and environmental NGO T&E issue joint letter calling on European Commission to introduce an ambitious but tailored carbon pricing mechanism for #shipping.
We've talked a lot about shipping's inclusion in the EU Emissions Trading System.
But this EU plan here isn't being talked about enough: A carbon intensity standard on ship fuels- rather than on the ship itself.
