I am dorjay from saspochey (UT Ladakh). Working with Nature conservation foundation (NCF). I hope that one day all people and wildlife can co-exist peacefully.
In early 2020, @lobzangncf and I were travelling near TR-Sumdo of Changthang, #ladakh#India. We came across a few herders that wanted to chat. #EncounterUncia
In Chumur in Leh the harsh weather makes it hard for herders to feed their livestock in winter unless they have collected fodder during the warmer months. But fodder can be difficult to find as pasture lands degrade and livestock and wildlife compete for the remaining resources
Interactions with livestock herding communities at the Tegazong winter pastures. Sherab Lobzang and Rigzen Dorjey's project involves helping communities access barley during the winters to increase livestock yield and offset losses to #wolves and snow #leopards.
#coexistence
@snowleopards and @snowleopard_ncf do really interesting work on helping herding communities to co-exist with large carnivores (wolves, snow leopards) in the landscape - e.g., via predator-proofing corrals @ksuryawanshi@CharuduttMishra
What exactly do we do here at Conservation Evidence?
We've got a shiny new page to explain who we are, what we do, why it matters and how you can support us - come take a look: https://t.co/a2fxFYB0B8

Whenever a crisis loomed over Ladakh, the leaders and the people of Ladakh always stood against and raised concerns unitedly. Today Historic pologround was filled with thousands of people in support of @Wangchuk66’s #climatefast for #6thScheduleForLadakh.

#DidYouKnow Pallas's cats have the longest and densest fur of any cat?
It took #WPYAlumni Shanyuan Li six years to capture this rare scene of playful Pallas’s cats.

Interestingly, even though predators like snow leopards and Eurasian Lynx also inhabit the rugged landscape of Ladakh, herders consider Shanku (wolves as known in Ladakhi) as their biggest threat. Here is a photograph of a Tibetan wolf clicked by @Dorjayncf
Have you heard episode #25, The Thing About Himalayan Ungulates with Munib Khanyari who has just emerged from having completed his fascinating doctoral work in the Himalayas.
