🚨 BREAKING: BONTA VOTED FOR ID-SCANNING TECHNOLOGY

Official legislative records show that Rob Bonta voted three times for AB 2769—legislation expressly permitting businesses, including bars and clubs, to electronically scan identification to verify age, authenticate an ID, comply with legal requirements or prevent fraud.

The bill’s legislative analysis specifically discussed PatronScan, reporting that the company had collected information from more than 561,000 Sacramento customers in only five months.

But when Huntington Beach voters approved identification requirements at the polls, Attorney General Bonta sued to stop them—and fought until the measure was permanently blocked.

California already uses DMV information in its election system. DMV signature images can become part of a voter’s registration record, and mail-ballot envelope signatures are compared against signatures in that record.

Apparently, identification technology is acceptable for entering a nightclub—and DMV information is reliable enough to validate a ballot mailed from anywhere.

But confirming the identity of a voter standing at the polls is “voter suppression.”

ID FOR A DRINK. NOT FOR A VOTE.

🚨🚨🚨 **CALIFORNIA’S DRIVER’S-LICENSE GOTCHA**

A friend of mine—an American citizen—just received her new California driver’s license in the mail.

It is a standard driver’s license, not a REAL ID. Then she noticed the fine print on the back:

“This card is not acceptable for official federal purposes. This license is issued only as a license to drive a motor vehicle. It does not establish eligibility for employment, firearms purchases, voter registration, or public benefits.”

That raised an obvious question:

**What disclosure appears on an AB 60 driver’s license—the license California issues to applicants who cannot prove that their presence in the United States is legally authorized?**

The answer: **the same visible warning.**

Both licenses say **“FEDERAL LIMITS APPLY.”** A standard non‑REAL ID issued to a United States citizen is visually indistinguishable from an AB 60 license issued to someone who could not prove lawful presence.

That was not an oversight.

In 2022, the California Legislature passed AB 1766, which specifically **deleted the requirement that these restricted licenses carry a recognizable distinguishing feature.** Governor Gavin Newsom signed it.

I believe California deliberately erased this distinction in anticipation of voter-identification and citizenship-verification laws like Proposition 39 and the federal SAVE Act.

First, California made the licenses look alike. Now California politicians argue that driver’s licenses cannot establish citizenship.

**They created the ambiguity—and now they use that ambiguity as an argument against verification.**

My recommendation: If you are a United States citizen and your California license says **“FEDERAL LIMITS APPLY,” go get your REAL ID.**

A REAL ID establishes lawful presence and is accepted for federal identification purposes. Because certain lawful noncitizens can also obtain one, retain your passport, birth certificate or naturalization certificate whenever actual proof of citizenship is required.

California erased the distinction. Citizens should restore it wherever possible.

California Republican Assemblyman Carl DeMaio is threatening to sue Gov. Gavin Newsom over a new law he says criminalizes citizen journalism and shields taxpayer-funded NGOs from fraud investigations. The law, set to take effect Oct. 1, creates privacy protections for immigration support service providers — including penalties for publishing their images on social media.

DeMaio says he already has a plaintiff and is assembling legal briefs, and he's calling on the Trump DOJ to intervene. He alleges California's fraud problem dwarfs Minnesota's daycare scandal, claiming NGOs receiving taxpayer funds "organize rallies, harvest ballots, endorse candidates" instead of delivering public services.

Newsom signed the bill into law last week despite the controversy.
