Hope this sets the bar higher for the trading platforms building on Bittensor 🥩
My belief in $TAO is shaken.
Bittensor is high on hopes, low on actual proof of useful work.
New Bitcoins are only given to miners. There are no exploits. The only "exploit" you can find in Bitcoin is creating better mining hardware which makes bitcoin stronger.
Even among subnets, those doing the actual useful work get dumped like trash and the subnets with good promo videos pump instead in a great rotation game among 5k wallets per week.
Asked grok wtf this retard means for dummies:
The poster is saying he’s losing confidence in **Bittensor ($TAO)** because it feels more like hype and speculative trading than a system that reliably rewards real, useful AI work.
He’s comparing it to Bitcoin: every new BTC is earned only by miners who burn energy and do actual proof-of-work that secures the network. Better hardware just makes Bitcoin stronger — there’s no free money handed out to passive holders or people who aren’t doing real work. He argues Bittensor doesn’t work that cleanly. TAO (and the subnet tokens) get emitted even when some of the activity is passive staking, “useless” validators, or other low-effort ways of capturing rewards rather than genuine productive AI work. In his view, that makes the inflation less efficient and less valuable than Bitcoin’s.
The last part is about the market behavior of the subnets themselves. He claims the ones that are actually doing useful work often get sold off (“dumped like trash”), while the ones with slick promo videos and good marketing tend to pump. He sees it as a rotating speculative game mostly played by a relatively small set of wallets (~5k per week) rather than sustained demand based on real utility.
In short: he’s calling Bittensor high on narrative and low on strict “proof of useful work,” and he thinks the current token/subnet dynamics reward promotion and speculation more than actual productive AI output. (His later replies in the thread double down on the “there shouldn’t be free TAO” point.)
Yes what i mean is that every bitcoin minted is the result of real work, not passive investors or useless validators - which is a huge difference.
As long as Tao is given out for no real work, it remains inefficient and worse than bitcoin.
Tao should never be earned for free aka passive holding or useless validators

@CaiusScottus@TAOTemplar agreed its a matter of perspective. snapshot of network today = bad, snapshot in 5 years = potentially awesome but needs a lot of work and sacrifice.
the entire thing does not make sense.
a validator must have a role worth earning emissions
a miner must have a job producing valuable outputs
a staker does nothing expect backing up with capital
it is not efficient right now and i am loosing sight of how it can even be salvaged
i dont want to convince anyone cause each their own choices but like i mean... there is definitely some emissions that are received without having deserved it. unlike bitcoin which is literal perfection in terms of incentive mecanism. its just not producing that "useful work" in terms of output... but can argue the usefulness of bitcoin mining is securing itself as an asset while tao is not backed by anything else than OTF sudo key.
@Anunzio99 constantly evaluated against the ground truth. sometimes seems to improve. sometimes seems like a big ponzi. depends how you want to analyse it
those subnets being good is better than nothing and a great start but even with those, not all participants ar working to earn the emissions unlike bitcoin. And this si what i meant.
only a fraction of TAO/alpha emissions are genuinely worked for which makes the inflation not as efficient as with bitcoin which goes 100% to securing itself and making it stronger.
the fact that some emissions in bittensor can just be earned by staking, being a useless validator or a subnet owner self-mining without buybacks, etc. is killing the value
my thoughts are that i am late to the party lol.
but I DID check it out around in June or something because @lium_io subnet in bittensor is mining it with idle pods they rent out.
It made me curious to see wtf was running on my gpus and i thought pearl was a fucking good idea. but i didnt mine it or buy it.
