Climate Finance and Policy Group

Research group at @ETH_en led by @BjarneSteffen. We study the governance of the energy transition, and how to catalyze finance for new low-carbon technologies

[Nature Communications @NatureComms]

@PhilCens, @PaulWaidelich, et al. analyze #energy financing patterns of public #ExportCredit agencies (ECAs), finding mainly European ECAs moved away from fossil fuels, a transition paired with shifting support towards high-income countries. @heclausanne https://t.co/0Y2y4sRmvn

Very proud of the first Doctor from @ETH_CFP : Our @PaulWaidelich successfully defended his doctoral thesis Essays on Climate Change and the Financial Economy yesterday. Congrats!! Amazing work, with papers out in Nature Climate Change and Energy Economics, and more to come!

[Bjarne Steffen @BjarneSteffen]

Can you assess ex-ante how climate policies spill over between regions via technological change? We try… Great to finally see this paper out, with @bessie_noll and Tobi @ETH_EPG. #net0prisma

New Paper from a collaboration between our groups @ETH Zurich and @IRENA shows the possibilities and limits of using auction data to estimate cost of capital of Solar PV projects! @ETH_CFP

[Bjarne Steffen @BjarneSteffen]

Good data on renewables cost of capital is sparse, esp for developing countries (where it matters). We present a large-n approach of re-engineering PV auction results, w/ @floegli @NikolaiOrgland @mtaylor_nz @ETH_EPG #net0prisma @esc_ethz_ch @istp_eth https://t.co/ET1uCSfYtu

Great to see this online! Co-authored by our very own @floegli. Proposed exactly this about 10 years ago in a @NatureClimate paper on de-risking low-carbon investment (see screenshot). https://t.co/Roy4MefjES Now pls use this data #energytwitter! how to? https://t.co/QDR6JepGXe

PhD opportunity with us and @ETH_CFP! We seek a student to improve our understanding of the economics of (advanced) geothermal power. Geothermal might be a key tech in a clean energy system (or not, depending on economics). Job description here: https://t.co/BatlMpE3Rd
