@MrIanAHunter@CarterRoutes Okay say you take the threshold to zero, you have a straight line rather than a bulge. But you might kill tens of thousands of business in the process. Dumb policy
@KenBurg72380072@FindleysFinance Ken if you don’t mind me asking how much have you ever spent running paid ads on meta in your life? IF you had you’d know that platform is the best in the business and getting better. Ad tech no one else can compete with.
@MrIanAHunter@CarterRoutes You think it’s the VAT that capping their business? Often these are just small rag tag spontaneous businesses that can’t expand if they wanted to. They’re lean one / two person operations, a coffee van, marketing freelancer, designer, advisor, b&b.
@TakeFlightAgain@richardwadams@CarterRoutes A medium size biz has specialised HR, marketing, finance and admin, they have economies of scale. A micro one person business’s doesn’t.
@GrahamJCampbell@CarterRoutes There’s a reason the UK is ranked as one of the most entrepreneurial countries in Europe. Low bureaucracy is one of them. If they wanted to grow or they could grow, they would grow. VAT can destroy the incentive structure for micro consumer businesses.
@TakeFlightAgain@GrahamJCampbell@CarterRoutes Nothing if you’re a larger company. But If everyone had to do it, it immediately favour multinationals who have more economies of scale. If you want a level playing field this is it. If anything increasing VAT threshold with a taper would make more sense.
@MrIanAHunter@CarterRoutes Idiocy. Introducing more bureaucracy for micro businesses is insane, let them breathe and grow. In a pen stoke you’d kill tens of thousands of jobs.
@MattBCL@CarterRoutes Assuming your customers don’t change their behaviour, also absorbs future price rises that would have been yours. “You don’t pay more tax” but you just make less than you would’ve PLUS you have more bureaucracy
