Because that is simply a fact. Addressing the legal reality is not ignoring culture. It is clarifying that using inspired elements in a drama is not stealing. If you want official credits, take it to a production company, not a random X/twitter account.

[Khloeee @Khloeee7o]

@Eileen_tcf The issue is cultural recognition, not legal permission. Public domain doesn’t mean cultural context is irrelevant. You’re defending a point nobody even challenged.

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

Public domain simply means historical and traditional elements aren't legally copyrighted. Drawing artistic inspiration from regional history in a drama is not claiming ownership of another nation's culture.

You have great cuisine but trying to claim Som Tum, Pad Thai and Sabai as your own? Go ahead and try.

[ZZ @wailliam_zz]

@Eileen_tcf What 'public domain'? When a big production uses soft power to make people think a foreign royal emblem is theirs, any country would worry. Let's repeat: this is NOT shared culture. By your logic, can we just claim Som Tam, Pad Thai, and the Sabai all belong to Myanmar?

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

I was not part of that debate, nor did I accuse any one of stealing anything.

My stance is 100% consistent. Public domain history belongs to shared heritage, free for anyone to use without needing foreign governments permission. Dragging in another country and random online drama you can't hold me accountable for doesn't change basic creative law.

[ZZ @wailliam_zz]

@Eileen_tcf What a joke. Then why do you guys always accuse Cambodians of 'stealing' the Sabai? By your logic, they should be able to use it freely too. Stop pretending to be innocent and lecturing others when you don't even understand history.

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

Nobody is saying a nation must fix its struggles before speaking about culture. What is being called out is using a real world humanitarian crisis as a moral shield to validate absurd demand.

Expecting a private drama studio to get diplomatic clearance from a foreign governments and online netizens over inspired attire isn't 'defending heritage’. It is inventing copyright rules on public domain history that don't exist.

If you have the data and time to write essays policing this short fantasy drama trailer, your daily survival is not as critical as you pretend.

[Cloudzz @Cloudzz099]

Nobody called Myanmar's humanitarian crisis ragebait. What's being called out is the attempt to weaponise it to belittle Burmese people for defending their cultural heritage.

Since when must a country resolve its political and economic struggles before its people earn the right to speak about their culture? A nation's suffering doesn't make its heritage any less worthy of respect.

And speaking of “endless energy,” you've devoted quite a bit of yours to arguing about these so-called fictional clothes. Funny how it's a waste of time only when someone disagrees with you.

If defending a fantasy drama requires exploiting a real nation's suffering, perhaps you should reconsider whose priorities are misplaced. You've made plenty of remarks about Myanmar, yet remarkably few that actually strengthen your argument.

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

Hollywood doesn't ask permission from foreign governments or agencies before using public domain aesthetics in fantasy films, so why would a Thai studio need permission to use regional historical attire? No modern state holds a patent on centuries old public domain culture.

Inspiration is not ownership. Using historical attire for a fantasy show is not declaring 'this belongs exclusively to Thailand'. That is just pure paranoia. Nobody is passing off a drama costume as a history lesson for future generations. It’s a TV show, not a history textbook.

[ZZ @wailliam_zz]

@Eileen_tcf Asking for permission is one thing, but misrepresenting another sovereign state's specific 19th-century royal emblem as your own regional culture is entirely different.Hollywood uses Persian aesthetics for Persian themes, not passing them off as native American or European history

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

Some people have endless energy to inspect historical costumes in a fantasy drama and demand credits in a short trailer but actual political and economic crises are suddenly 'rage-bait.' It just shows you’d rather spend time on fictional clothes than face what’s really happening outside your window.

Ignoring real world issues doesn't make them disappear. It just shows how fragile your bubble is if simply mentioning reality triggers your cultural ownership obsession.

[Cloudzz @Cloudzz099]

What an obvious ragebait. Bringing up Myanmar's humanitarian crisis, political instability and exploitation of resources in a discussion about traditional costumes is such a low blow. What does any of that have to do with cultural representation?

What exactly does Myanmar's current situation have to do with whether Burmese traditional attire is being appropriately represented in a Thai drama?

Suggesting that Burmese people should be more concerned about their country's struggles than protecting their cultural identity is incredibly dismissive. If anything, cultural preservation becomes even more important when a country is experiencing such hardship.

And telling people to fund their own production if they want cultural representation completely misses the point. You don't need to be a financial investor to have a legitimate opinion about how your heritage is portrayed.

Can disagree without weaponising an entire nation's suffering to mock its people. And the irony of preaching about everyone's right to express an opinion while belittling Burmese people for expressing theirs is quite something.

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

If you don't understand what I wrote, try to think it through, stop whining and don't think that writing in Burmese means I won't pay attention. The question is: if Hollywood filmmakers want to make a fantasy movie about the Persian Empire, do they need to ask permission from the Iranian government or any Iranian agency for the costume designs?

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

Calling a discussion arguing ignores the point of exchanging different perspectives and knowledge. People are allowed to hold different views. We do not have to agree on everything. Nationality has nothing to do with standard critical thinking.

You mention using attire without any permission but to whom or which agency should permission even be granted? Traditional cultural heritage and historical folk garments don't belong to a single entity, company or government agency that issues licenses or permissions.

[Y (Lili's Koala🐨❄) @Y42636851]

@Eileen_tcf You’re Thai yourself, so why don’t you look into it instead of just arguing with me? Stop closing your eyes and face to the truth just accept it. We aren’t attacking the actors; our point is simply that our traditional attire was used without any permission being sought.

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

Since when has anyone actually labeled or claimed these costumes as ours?

Making accusations and assumptions before the drama has even aired is completely premature and groundless.

[maerlrr @mary47499]

@Eileen_tcf Using historical court styles in fiction is not cultural theft or erasure but using other country's styles under the label of your country is wrong!

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

Yawn... Which of my comments was not true? Besides, the country is on the verge of being drained of its resources by a superpower and falling into a century long debt trap, to the point where even the land might be lost to others. If you're that sensitive and your mindset isn't resilient enough, how can you survive and compete in the real world? Plus, you're quoting other Thai netizens because you've run out of arguments. Everyone has the right to express their opinion, but you are not the financial investor behind this drama's production. If you want a specific version, you should fund and produce it yourself.

[Y (Lili's Koala🐨❄) @Y42636851]

@Eileen_tcf Even some of your people are saying that they also want to watch their own traditional costumes not other's,here's you saying about a civil war that completely out of topic and those people should kept silence for being sealed their cultures by other?
SHAME ON YOU DUDE!

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

Has your country never made fantasy historical dramas, so you don't understand that design has freedom and flexibility in choosing costumes?

Did the producers of this drama say what period the fictional city in the drama takes place in or is it just fans' speculation?

I'm not a representative of the producers, but if your complaining can make you somewhat happy from your problems, you're welcome.

The country you should be careful of might not be Thailand, which constantly carries and helps migrants and refugees from your country, but rather a superpower ready to plunder resources from your country through a debt trap.

Busy worrying about national heritage, watch out, soon even the land will belong to others.

[Kaung Kin Cho @Sky_06KKc]

@Eileen_tcf Then use their own traditional outfit wtf bothered using other countries outfits. The fantasy or what even the timeline wasn't right. They should research more. How unresponsible and shameless things to do. And they dare to say they spent a lot of time and budget preparing this.

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

There is no need to win any argument. I am simply sharing facts about the adaptation of Scarlet Heart, which now has four different versions with different settings.

[banana @bananaismebabe]

Bro is trying so hard to win the argument but the elephant in the room is that even if it's a fantasy drama or whatever you call it,you shouldn't neglect basic respect when borrowing another country's culture

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

I am glad you have a positive impression of Thai people. Disagreeing on drama costumes or real world situations is not an attack or flexing on anyone. We can share different perspectives without making personal assumptions about each other.

[suzzz @SuzzzSuzzzimck]

@Eileen_tcf At this point, I hope you’re not the Thai people because the Thai I’ve met are polite, respectful, and know how to stay relevant to the discussion. Flexing over people already suffering, hardship isn’t context and bringing that certainly isn’t acting like an adult.

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

I understand your concern. As Thai entertainment grows globally, international audiences may indeed blend distinct regional elements together, just as viewers often do with East Asian media from China, Japan and South Korea. However, that is a matter of audience awareness not intentional misrepresentation by creators.

[Khloeee @Khloeee7o]

@Eileen_tcf When the series is presented as a Thai remake, international audiences may naturally associate these elements with Thai culture without knowing their possible Myanmar origins. Please don’t misuse or misrepresent them.

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

The original Chinese series was set in the Qing Dynasty and the Korean adaptation was set in the Goryeo Dynasty, both were historical period dramas.

In contrast, Scarlet Heart Thailand adapted the story into a fictional fantasy setting where costume designers have more freedom to draw artistic inspiration from regional styles without portraying a specific historical country or requiring formal credit for public domain aesthetics.

[A Fan of Thoughts @thoughts52305]

@kathneri @Eileen_tcf China version represented its own chinese fantasy, not the other country's heritage presentation included. So did Korean version. Now you admitted you used others'. No one is saying you can't use that. So stop saying stupid excuses, just give credit to others for what's theirs.

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

At the end of the day, online discussions are simply opportunities to exchange knowledge and perspectives.

At both government and private sector levels, ASEAN countries already share plenty of cooperation and mutual understanding.

[Nin Nin @NinNinsrdd]

@Eileen_tcf Instead of letting historical events fuel division or negative comparisons, it would be much better for Southeast Asian nations to focus on mutual understanding and cooperation.

#RespectMyanmarCulture

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

“Thailand version” simply refers to the Thai production company adapting the drama. They chose a fantasy setting for this adaptation, which gives costume designers creative freedom to draw inspiration from regional attire. It is not a claim of sole cultural ownership over regional history, nor does it take away another country’s heritage.

[erry @KhaingChaw23]

@Eileen_tcf We say clearly. They take ownership as Thailand ver, why they don't use their own tradition & dress? Why use Myanmar dress & culture? Why Thai want to connected with Burmese so bad? Your cultures are not that interesting?

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

To produce a Scarlet Heart Myanmar, a Burmese production company would need to purchase the official remake rights from the Chinese copyright holder.

Scarlet Heart Thailand is set in a fictional/fantasy universe, not historical Thailand or Myanmar. Costume designers take creative inspiration from regional aesthetics without claiming historical ownership.

[Jesmine @Jesmine733847]

@Eileen_tcf If they represented Burmese in the drama they can freely dress. This is Scarlet heart Thailand, not scarlet heart Myanmar. If they wears Myanmar Traditional costume, need to credit. If not, this is misrepresented Myanmar costume as Thailand historically costume to the world.

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

I don't work for GMMTV but I am looking forward to watching Scarlet Hearts Thailand in curiosity after this online debate.

Explain public domain rules simply clarifies how fantasy drama teams use regional attire as inspiration.

Highlighting real world regional context is not dragging suffering in. It explains the underlying issues driving these online cultural arguments in the first place.

[suzzz @SuzzzSuzzzimck]

@Eileen_tcf You keep bringing up public domain, but that was never my criticism. My point was about you dragging war, migrants, and real people’s suffering into a costume debate. Public domain doesn’t address that at all. At this point, you sound like someone from GMMTV 😬

[Eileen_tcf @Eileen_tcf]

The title Scarlet Heart Thailand specifies that this is the fourth adaptation of the original Chinese IP, following the original Chinese series, its sequel and the South Korean adaptation.

When GMMTV announced Scarlet Heart Thailand, they licensed the copyrighted story from China to adapt it into a local production. Because this Thai version is in a fictional fantasy setting, costume designers can freely combine regional aesthetic influences.

Using historical court styles in fiction is not cultural theft or erasure. Drawing inspiration for a fantasy show does not take away another country’s heritage nor does it mean Thailand is claiming ownership of it.

[erry @KhaingChaw23]

@Eileen_tcf Naming the Series as Scarlet heart THAILAND ver but using Myanmar culture. You don't have the right to use other countries culture without giving credit whether historical or not. Then name the series "Scarlet heart Myanmar Ver"bcs she go time travel to Burmese Kingdom, not Thai.
