Update: The National Women Council Chairperson, Faridah Kibowa, has called on government to increase the institutional funds allocated to District Women Councils, saying the current amount is insufficient to support economic empowerment programmes for women.

Kibowa said the low funding undermines the government’s goal of lifting women out of poverty.
