✔️Once again, U.S. President Donald J. Trump has demonstrated a shocking level of ignorance and cultural insensitivity — this time by asking the President of Liberia, “Where did you learn to speak so beautifully?” during a public exchange.

✔️Let us be clear: English is the official language of Liberia. It has been so since the nation’s founding in the 19th century by formerly enslaved African Americans who returned from the United States to establish a republic rooted in shared heritage and self-determination.

✔️To express surprise at a Liberian leader’s command of the English language is not only ignorant — it is deeply patronizing and historically illiterate.

✔️This is more than a gaffe. It is a reminder of the troubling tendency of some global figures to approach Africa and its people with outdated, colonial-era assumptions — assumptions that have no place in serious diplomacy or global leadership.

✔️We call on political leaders, diplomats, and the media to treat African nations and their leaders with the dignity, equality, and informed respect that international cooperation demands.

✔️Africa does not need lessons in language, civilization, or leadership — and it certainly does not need condescension masquerading as compliments.

✔️The people of Liberia, and the people of Africa at large, deserve better.

WHY THE USA SNUBBED NIGERIA’S PRESIDENT TINUBU AND CALLED THE OTHER 5 WEST AFRICAN HEADS OF STATE FOR WASHINGTON MEETING THIS WEEK

A source close to White House told me that President Tinubu @officialABAT has been sidelined in a meeting called by @realDonaldTrump that includes 5 West African States to Washington this week.

In recent diplomatic developments, the United States and key Western powers have deliberately excluded Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from critical ECOWAS security meetings.

This exclusion is rooted in longstanding concerns over Mr. Tinubu’s unresolved involvement in a 1993 U.S. narcotics forfeiture case—yet Nigeria is seen and continues to assert itself as a regional leader watched by France.

This denial of Nigeria’s meeting with Trump highlights a glaring inconsistency in Western foreign policy and raises important questions about credibility and Nigeria’s governance system in Africa.

The denial also highlights on one hand, Western governments like Finland, Norway, and France that work with states like Nigeria that are full of corruption, organized crime, and human rights violations in Africa.

The USA ’s policy, on the other hand, continues to engage, tacitly or explicitly, with leaders whose pasts undermine these very principles of human rights abuses in Africa.

By sidelining President @officialABAT due to unresolved allegations, the West signals its concern—but simultaneously enables Nigeria’s government to maintain dominance within ECOWAS and suppress dissent, including the violent crackdown on the Indigenous People of Biafra.

The impact on regional stability is the key discussion in Washington with the 5 Heads of State of ECOWAS . Nigeria is Africa’s largest economy and the heart of ECOWAS. Yet its leadership credibility is in question, weakening the bloc’s ability to respond cohesively to crises.

This diplomatic ambivalence creates a leadership vacuum exploited by other powers like Finland and France with less transparent agendas.

The type of hypocrisy on display is worrying to some of us Pan-Africans While Western countries call for democratic reforms and respect for minority rights across Africa, they often ignore these demands when it suits geopolitical interests like the crisis of Biafra and Southern Cameroons.

This selective diplomacy undermines the legitimacy of international efforts to promote justice and self-determination, particularly for marginalized groups like the Biafran people and Southern Cameroons.

In conclusion, I want to state that for this type of Western diplomacy to be credible, it must apply its principles consistently—holding Nigeria accountable.

USA must support genuine democratic governance and human rights in Nigeria. This means not only excluding compromised figures like President Tinubu but also addressing the suppression of legitimate movements for self-determination of Biafra.

It must be only through consistent and principled engagement that lasting peace and justice can be achieved in West Africa.

We call on international media to focus on Nigeria’s record of human rights and the civil societies across the world to condemn the human rights abuses of Nigeria.

USA policymakers must scrutinize Nigeria’s insecurity and terrorist-related activities and avoid inconsistency by demanding greater accountability from all actors involved in the Government of Nigeria.
