The IFRC is scaling up its response in support of the Venezuelan Red Cross following the two powerful earthquakes that struck north-central Venezuela, deploying additional personnel and mobilizing essential supplies to support affected communities.
Working alongside government authorities, together with the Venezuelan Red Cross, we are moving quickly to deliver life-saving assistance where it is needed most.
While in Tokyo, Japan, I spoke with the media and warned of the growing challenges facing humanitarian aid efforts worldwide.
Across the globe, communities are facing conflict, disasters, displacement, extreme heatwaves, disease outbreaks such as Ebola, and increasing vulnerability. At the same time, humanitarian funding is declining, and the safety of humanitarian workers is increasingly at risk.
We urgently need stronger respect for international humanitarian law, greater protection for humanitarian workers, and sustained investment in humanitarian action.
In a world that continues to grow wealthier, no one should die because their basic needs are not met. https://t.co/XwNZpx28ST
One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.
On World Blood Donor Day, we are reminded that one of the most powerful acts of humanity can begin with a single donation. One blood donation can save up to three lives, and behind each donation is a person choosing to help someone they may never meet.
The @IFRC supports Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in delivering and promoting safe, sustainable blood programmes around the world. Through their work, National Societies and volunteers help mobilize donors, strengthen community trust, and support access to safe blood when and where it is needed.
On today’s #WorldBloodDonorDay, I pay tribute to blood donors everywhere, and to our IFRC network teams and countless volunteers whose commitment makes a profound difference in people’s lives.
Donate blood. Save lives.
Today is #WorldBloodDonorDay.
This year’s theme, “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.” places humanity at the heart of every blood donation.
Donating blood is an act of solidarity.
Across the @IFRC network, around one quarter of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies are responsible for blood service delivery in their national blood programmes.
Thank you for your life-saving work.
A devastating 7.8 earthquake has struck Mindanao, Philippines. Lives lost, communities shaken, families displaced. The @philredcross is on the ground—saving lives, providing relief, and supporting evacuation. The @ifrc stands in solidarity and ready to mobilize global support if necessary. @sanjeevkafley@AJMatheou
Deeply shocked by the attack on Red Cross volunteers carrying out a safe and dignified burial operation in Bunia, Democratic Republic of Congo, on 1 June 2026, as part of efforts to contain the ongoing Ebola outbreak.
We strongly condemn this violence and stand in solidarity with the affected volunteers and their families. Humanitarian workers must be respected and protected at all times.
I call for respect, acceptance and support for volunteers working on the frontlines of the Ebola response.
Not every disaster makes global headlines. But for the communities affected, the impact is devastating. That is why @IFRC_DREF matters, getting funds directly to local actors - both before and after a crisis strikes.
Anchored in the @IFRC’s Renewal, the IFRC-DREF 2026 Plan sets out how we will strengthen anticipatory action, accountability, operational quality and impact.
At a time of rising needs and shrinking resources, we must work smarter and ensure no community facing disaster is ignored.

Thanks to Reuters for this piece highlighting how the IFRC network is supporting communities at the centre of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where building trust is essential.
Supported by the @IFRC, Red Cross volunteers are going door to door to share trusted health information, counter misinformation, and encourage early care-seeking, critical work that helps reduce the spread of Ebola. https://t.co/CdyI4wOgIW
Many thanks, Deputy Minister @MFAofArmenia@RAbisoghomonyan for for an enriching discussion and thoughtful exchange on today’s humanitarian challenges. We also appreciate the opportunity to highlight the strong and effective collaboration between @IFRC and @RedCrossArmenia, as well as to explore further avenues for cooperation with #Armenia.
At the Kabul Marastoon Exhibition opening ceremony, the @ARCSAfghanistan highlights results led by women to restore livelihoods and build resilience.
650 women trained and supported with start-up grants and market linkages.
With @ifrc support, Marastoon strengthens income, skills, and stability across communities.
Volunteers are the heartbeat of humanity.
Across 191 countries, 17 million Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers respond to crises and drive local action with global impact.
2026 is #InternationalVolunteerYear, a year to celebrate them.
Sudan cannot be forgotten.
Today marks three years since the conflict escalated in Sudan.
Three years on, humanitarian needs remain immense and continue to evolve. Since day one, with the support of the @IFRC, the Sudanese Red Crescent Society has been on the ground, with local volunteers responding in extremely difficult conditions.
For many families, the choice is unimaginable: remain displaced with limited support, or return to communities where little remains. As needs shift, the IFRC and the Sudanese Red Crescent Society continue to adapt their response.
Here’s what the IFRC is focusing its response on. 👇
Local action is the backbone of humanitarian response.
The newly launched IFRC-DREF Strategic Ambition 2026–2030 reaffirms our commitment to @IFRC_DREF mandate: supporting fast, predictable, transparent and accountable locally led responses to small- and medium-sized disasters. At the heart of this ambition is a clear goal: to grow IFRC-DREF into a CHF 200 million replenishable, revolving pooled fund by 2030, aiming to reach 50 million people.
As funding shrinks and crises grow more complex, National Societies remain the first and last line of defense for communities in need. Their role has never been more critical.

📍Lebanon | We are deeply distressed by the killing of @RedCrossLebanon paramedic Hassan Badawi, who succumbed to injuries sustained from a strike while carrying out an emergency rescue mission in the Bint Jbeil district in southern Lebanon.
We mourn this tragic loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones and his colleagues. Our thoughts are also with another Lebanese Red Cross colleague who was injured in the same incident.
Saving lives must never cost a life. Humanitarian and medical personnel must be protected.
Proud of the solidarity shown by our IFRC teams working alongside the Turkish Red Crescent.
Today, trucks carrying life-saving medical supplies and much needed relief items, coordinated by the @IFRC and the Turkish @RedCrescent, have entered Iran as humanitarian needs continue to rise sharply across the country.
The shipment includes 200 advanced trauma kits mobilized by the @IFRC for the Iranian Red Crescent, marking one of the first cross-border shipments of medical supplies since the start of the conflict. This coordinated effort with the Turkish Red Crescent highlights the role of the IFRC in mobilizing support across borders to respond to urgent humanitarian needs.

Today, I join our partners at @WHO in celebrating World Health Day.
Health starts in communities. At the @IFRC, our network of 191 National Societies is "local, everywhere", rooted in the communities they serve. What unites our work is that we always tailor health services to local contexts and needs. And because our millions of volunteers are part of the communities they serve, our health work is always community-led.
World Health Day is also a stark reminder that in the midst of conflict, access to healthcare is not just a necessity, it is a matter of life and death. When doctors are killed and clinics are bombed, the "immune system" of a community is dismantled.
Investing in community health is not just a moral choice; it is a strategic one. We must empower the people on the front lines to lead the way, ensuring that community resilience is the foundation upon which we build a world that is truly secure.
“We’re sleeping very little these days. You can sense the fear and uncertainty in people’s faces.”
From Tehran, @MariaMercedes_M, Head of Delegation Iran @IFRC, describes a city under constant strain, sirens, displacement, and growing humanitarian needs.
The @IFRC continues to support the @Iranian_RCS as teams respond across the country, providing emergency care and psychosocial support to millions affected.
