約1100種類の嗅覚受容体が、鼻の中に地図のように規則正しく配置されていることが判明。
鼻の中の匂いセンサーは、これまで「大まかな領域の中にランダムに散らばっている」と考えられていたが、研究チームは数百万個の細胞を解析し、嗅覚受容体が鼻の中で帯状に並ぶことを発見した。さらに、その配置は脳の嗅覚マップとも対応。
つまり嗅覚は、単に匂い分子を検知するだけでなく、鼻のどこで検知したかという空間情報も利用している可能性がある。
嗅覚は原始的で曖昧な感覚と思われがちである。しかし実際には、視覚や聴覚のように精密に組織化された神経システムなのかも

これまで、基礎研究をしている医師の待遇に関して、啓蒙活動を行っているケースはほとんどないと理解しています。

私は基礎研究をしている日本人医師の立場から、日本の基礎研究医をどうにかして盛り上げたいと思い、このアカウントを作成しました。

Xを初めた当初はどうなるかわからない中で、短期間でこれほど大きな反響を頂けるとは思っていませんでした。本当にありがとうございます。また応援のDMをくださったみなさん、個別への返信はできませんが、本当にありがとうございます。

今後どのような形で、日本の基礎研究医にアプローチしていくかは考えている最中ですが、もうしばらく、自分の思ったこと・考えていることをツイートしていきたいと思っています。

私自身まだまだ未熟であることは理解しており、当然、色々なことに関して、間違えや誤った理解などがあると思っています。そのあたりに関しては、厳しくご指摘頂けたらと思っています。

基礎研究をしているのは医師だけでなく、また研究をしている医師は基礎研究医だけではないのは十二分に理解しておりますが、まずは基礎研究医に対してアプローチしていきたいと思っております。
