One of our newest Board of Directors, Ambassador and farmer Kip Tom, spoke on the Hill yesterday about the importance of agriculture research investments in the face of threats to U.S. national security interests.
From developing vaccines for devastating diseases like African Swine Fever before it arrives on American shores to identifying crop varieties that require fewer inputs, FFAR-funded research is seeking ways to increase the resilience of the U.S. food supply.

Today at the Southern Border, we officially broke ground on @USDA’s new sterile New World Screwworm production facility.🇺🇸
For months, we’ve been on offense:
• Monitoring 8,000+ traps along the southern border
• Testing nearly 51,000 fly specimens — all negative
• Inspecting 15,000+ animals across 78 species in 176 counties — all clear
• Suspending high-risk livestock imports
• Expanding surveillance, staffing, and sterile fly operations
• Opened South TX dispersal facility & modernized Mextapa facility
Thanks to this effort, we have held the line and NO NWS has gotten across the border.
And now, we’re finishing this fight.
This facility will produce up to 300 million sterile flies per week, giving the United States the ability to stop this dangerous pest before it ever threatens our ranchers, our herds, or our food supply.
This is about more than a facility.
It’s about protecting livelihoods.
It’s about securing our supply chain.
And it’s about making sure America never has to rely on anyone else to defend its agriculture.
Big shout out and thank you to my partners @SecWar, @SecMullinDHS, and @USACEHQ for moving this project at TRUMP SPEED. What would normally take years in previous administrations, took months instead. So grateful.
Check it out! Our Delaware Farmer Ambassador Dave Marvel helped organize a visit to Shadybrook Farms last week with Sen. @ChrisCoons and his team to talk about agriculture and global food security.
