@MiddleEast_24@visegrad24 I thought since you visited us last year you would understand this. Our Independence Day is June 26, today is our restoration of sovereignty considered a National day. Also the day SNM liberated our nation from the oppression of a dictatorship that massacred 200k+ of our people!
Tonight at Freedom Park in Hargeisa, thousands gather beneath the Somaliland flag as the nation prepares to mark May 18 — 35 years since Somaliland restored its statehood in 1991.
The streets are filled with national colours, songs and celebration as citizens honour three decades of resilience, peace and self-determination in the Horn of Africa.
From Freedom Park to cities across Somaliland, the spirit of May 18 stands as a symbol of unity, sacrifice and national pride.

If a citizens refuse to speak for the voiceless, the ones who are not in the economically secure positions of society then what do we stand for as a nation? If this was about TRIBE there would be demonstrations by now but it isn’t so who cares!! 3/3
This @MMSomalitv report today saying petrol prices have gone down from $107 to $88 but yet fuel stations in the country are still charging 13,000SH per liter. This is the worst case of price gouging I have seen. Why is the gov allowing this to continue? Do they benefit? 🤔1/3
Our attention is being diverted with political term extensions recognition & more all at once that no one is even speaking up about what’s going on & how this affects millions of landers living on daily earnings barely scrapping by on less than $10 a day if they are lucky 2/3
The House of Elders of Somaliland has approved a sweeping 27-month extension for the tenure of the Local Councils and the House of Representatives - a decision that strikes at the core of democratic accountability and entrenches the cycle of delayed elections.
This is the same government that, while in opposition, unequivocally promised the public that election delays would end. Today, it is not only silent but actively backing the very extension it once condemned - a clear and unacceptable betrayal of public trust.
If the government is not complicit in this decision, then it must act decisively and challenge it before the Supreme Court. Anything less is not neutrality - it is endorsement.
Somalilanders back home, speak up!
- The continued postponement of parliamentary and local council elections is unacceptable. It is a failure of our democratic process and must not go beyond six months.
- The Upper House holds too much power without a public mandate. It must be elected.
- Blocking @SomalilandChro1 over critical reporting is another disgrace. That is not how a free society operates.
As advocates connected to Somaliland friends everywhere, we all want to show the best of our country, but not at the expense of our constitution or our people’s rights.
We can push for Somaliland recognition and hold this government accountable at the same time.
If recognition blinds us from self-improvement and accountability, then it loses its meaning!
@Hashimiteszt Sis the bigger issue is that the Guurti has never fulfilled their mandate. The seat is not elected but inherited, the youngest member was sworn in at 27 yrs old, which in itself broke the constitution b/c the requirement is 45yrs. So it’s no surprise that they continue to do this
The Guurti approves yet another unconstitutional term extension this time for the Parliament and Local Governments. They are not constitutionally elected representatives who illegally extended their own term so how can we expect them to be the last word in our country?
EA-Drip, Rajo Kaaba & Sinnan are all projects SL gov is collaborating with the FAILED STATE. Words mean nothing if you are still willing to give your sovereignty for “Funding”. Under these projects SL is referred to as a “Federal Member State.” The lies continue…

Well put Sir! @Roblemuser has never shied away from asking what needs to be asked for the development of our country. In my experience with our institutions they have unnecessary overlaps that hinder progress and that needs to be addressed.
This short commentary explores 3 critical questions:
1. Can Somaliland convert its livestock & mineral wealth into real economic growth?
2. Are higher education, the national budget & development planning strategically aligned or working in silos?
3. What actions are needed?
@SprinterPress This is not accurate. The Port, Airport & base were part of the initial agreement with the UAE in 2015. Construction of the base was put on hold by the previous admin & there is no official documented agreement with any country for use of this facility for military purposes.
@nuur1_nuur What happened to the agreement this institution had with @somalilandmfa ? Their instructors were here last yr at the @sidiamofa doing training for MFA employees. 👇🏾 It baffles me that they are taking lead on Red Sea dialogue while excluding SLD.

Today should be celebrated as the SNM National Day. As a product of a family who were part of the foundation of the movement I was taught their importance to the peace & stability we have in our country today. I pray that Allah grant those who lost their lives Jannah.
My university’s WhatsApp group has shown more urgency than the entire Arab League of 22 states.
What’s fascinating is how quickly the Arab League can mobilize when it comes to condemning Somaliland’s recognition.
A functioning, stable, democratic society seeking legitimacy and peace for its people suddenly became an emergency.
Meetings…Statements…Rapid condemnation… even Institutional outrage!
But when 10 Arab countries themselves come under missile and drone attack by the Islamic Iranian regime?
Another carefully worded communiqué. Another “call for de-escalation.” Another performance of relevance. Soft whispers, no one felt a thing.
So let me get this straight…
Recognition of Somaliland was treated as a greater emergency than Arab capitals and infrastructure coming under direct attack?
So no, we do not need you, and we will not fund ghost institutions that exist only on paper.
The UAE has already proven it can lead, defend itself, and remain at the top of the world without deadweight structures dragging it down.
April 6, 1981, was a defining moment in the history of the Republic of Somaliland. The London declaration of the Somali National Movement (SNM) marked the beginning of a determined struggle against oppression, genocide, and injustice and the pursuit of dignity, freedom, and sovereignty. Today, we honor the courage and vision of its founders and the enduring legacy that continues to shape Somaliland.
Previous administrations ensured stronger representation of women in leadership & diplomacy, today, we don’t even have women serving as DGs, Sr. Advisors let alone Ambassadors which we had. This is not progress considering women account for more than 50% of voters in SL. 2/2
As the region advances conversations on women in diplomacy, Somaliland should also prioritize female representation in leadership and foreign affairs. Currently, we only have 1 woman in Parliament, 2 Ministers & no Vice Ministers or women in Foreign Affairs. 1/2
