The United Nations Committee Against Torture has repeatedly emphasized the obligation to prevent custodial abuse, ensure medical care, and uphold humane detention standards.

Unfortunately EU Parliament & all related Institutions have miserably failed to raise voice for Human Rights, Media Freedoms & political & religious plurality. Pakistan is perhaps the biggest beneficiary of GSP + in the world; this alone provided EU a strong leverage & responsibility that could have been used to prevent fascism that has been imposed through 26th & 27th Constitutional Amendments, total destruction of High Courts & Supreme Courts, muzzling of media & using military controlled courts to declare dissenting journalists as “Digital Terrorists” - at no point was EU ever able to take a meaningful position. We were especially proud to honor Lt.Governor Ghazala Hashmi @ltgovhashmi as a special guest and celebrate her historic election as the first Asian American elected to statewide office in Virginia.

While celebrating this important milestone, Team FPG also briefed congressional leaders and foreign policy teams on the alarming situation in Pakistan: gross human rights violations, media censorship, enforced disappearances, attacks on judicial independence, and the political victimization of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

His prolonged isolation, denial of adequate medical care, and reported loss of vision constitute inhumane treatment and raise serious concerns under international human rights and constitutional law. The fight for democracy, rule of law, free media, and fundamental human rights in Pakistan must remain a priority for the international community.

We also raised concerns regarding the protection of diaspora communities facing intimidation, harassment, or transnational repression linked to the increasingly authoritarian and illegitimate regime in Pakistan.
