@FarmrHuntr I think a lot of farmers see the current system not serving them and are hungry for change and reform. This sort of symbolic change can feel good — which is a double edged sword.

@CowBizGuy @ThinkethSo 100% agreed. Processing costs alone are up between 1.5x to 2x the past couple of years here (Western WA.) That’s without getting into gas/feed/labor, etc.

@dustfrmer @SteveWiesbaden @craigknapp76 Public resisting the real cost of food is real. Even selling out of wealthy urban centers (thank you @pike_place), a lot of farmers I know here get that same feedback: ‘farm fresh ___ costs how much?’

There’s an opportunity to better educate the public here.

@FarmrHuntr @johnkempf This same risk and tension exists when institutions — even those bloated or corrupted — are radically displaced. Which is not to say we don’t need reform. We clearly do. Here’s hoping that those who take over this new USDA, wherever it is, dialogue with farmers across the nation.

@FarmrHuntr Change for changes sake can do harm. Farmers know this better than most. It’s good to experiment and try new things, but someone like @johnkempf is building off of generations of experience with these experiments. A true novice will generally struggle to get much to grow.

At the end of his last term, the 45th and now 47th US President declared himself “a great environmentalist,” with aspirations to be the number one environmental president. For the sake of regenerative agriculture, let’s hope that’s the president we get.

@johnkempf Generally, it seems that collective norms create a regime of truth (or regimes of truth) which works to define what is real, recognizable, or valued.

Specifically, here, it seems like today’s farmers, the experts on cultivation, are not yet given enough voice.
