Resisting Overpolicing from Atlanta to Somerville: A Defund SPD Teach-In
Our struggles aren’t separate! Come to our teach-in this Sunday to meet your neighbors and discuss how the #StopCopCity movement relates to our campaign against a new $102M police station at 90 Washington.
Increased police stops, deadly high-speed chases is what causes the real chaos in border communities. #HB20 would allow roaming vigilantes (motivated by racial animus) to prosecute and arrest “who they perceive” is a migrant in Texas. @Dist32StateRep must stop #HB20. #NOtoHB20
📣 CALLING ALL STUDENTS! 📣
The Cambridge City Manager said he was advised to wait out the Justice for Faisal movement — but we won’t let that happen! Join fellow student leaders from schools and universities across the Boston Area for a cross-campus meeting to continue (1/2)
🔺Release the names of the officers who murdered Arif Sayed Faisal
🔺Release the unredacted police report of the incident
🔺Fire all the officers immediately
🔺Prosecute the officers involved to the full extent of the law.

🗣️🗣️ Local activists tell us what brought them into the fight for justice for Arif Sayed Faisal, a young UMass Boston student murdered by Cambridge police on January 4!
“Once I saw another person get killed by police, right near me, I had to get involved.” ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 to everyone working to make our schools safe for Black & Brown kids too. I still feel completely sick to my stomach when I think about the police being called @ForFlavia's 6-yr old & the countless kids/families we don't hear about.
Police officers will stay out of Somerville schools under new district plan - Thank you to everyone who worked so hard for these systemic changes to remove police from schools @ForFlavia @SarahP02143 #somerpoli#mapoli https://t.co/0Sb4rQccvI
CALLING ALL STUDENTS!
There will be a meeting TOMORROW at 5:30pm on MIT’s campus. The goal is to get students from Boston-area universities to come together, strategize for a mass student demonstration next Mon, and get more people involved in the fight. Hope to see you there!
On January 29th, I joined @MuslimJustice@ForFlavia@Boston_DSA & other Somerville residents in placing these flowers before the image of Arif Sayed Faisal, a Somerville High graduate murdered last month by Cambridge PD while he was in the midst of a mental health crisis.
A huge thank you to everyone who who showed up and showed out for #justiceforfaisal and came to the rally, and marched to the CPD station and to Arif’s image on the Mystic Mural ❤️
Thank you to the organizers who held space for our community to grieve and honor Sayed Arif Faisal’s precious and beautiful life. We need accountability and justice on behalf of his family. We need systemic change for all. TY BANE, @ForFlavia @MuslimJustice
Please join us and Bangladesh Association of New England (BANE) this Sunday for a rally and march in honor of this young man killed by Cambridge police.

New destination updates in this flyer!
Police killed nearly 100 people a month in 2022. There were only 12 days police didn’t kill someone. The majority of killings took place in scenarios where no crime was alleged or where police were called for nonviolent offenses or mental health checks. https://t.co/1GVuyxwsVg
Stay in the streets! Join the Bangladesh Association of New England this Saturday to demand Justice for Faisal this Saturday, January 14th at 1PM at Harvard Square in front of the T station #JusticeForFaisal
Fatema: “It’s unclear to me as an expert reading through the police contract why exactly [they] would be on paid leave instead of being suspended… How long will this officer be on paid leave while this investigation happens because you’re saying it will take a long time.”
Whether it is someone pleading for help in LA or someone in distress in Cambridge, the killing spree continues. #JusticeforKeenan#JusticeforFaisal We use these hashtags but there is no justice for either victim; there is only the persistent demand for justice for our communities
