WHO raised its highest alarm🚨 then, by declaring the #COVID19 outbreak a Public Health Emergency of Intl. Concern.
6 weeks later, the outbreak had become a pandemic.
Big news for @EligoBio: a $224M deal with @GSK! 👏 The company's #CRISPR-based acne treatment disables harmful bacterial genes that induce acne while leaving the rest of the skin #microbiome intact! 🦠

Scientists have now found a way to prevent warmed-up vaccines from degrading. By encasing protein molecules in a silica shell, the structure remains intact even when heated to 100°C, or stored at room temperature for up to three years.

.@MattHancock says there were 133,784 tests yesterday. The number of people actually tested for #coronavirus -according to @DHSCgovuk - was almost half that - 69,590. People are often tested twice, sometimes more, to confirm test results as they are not always reliable.

"Three questions countries need to answer before lifting lockdowns:
1. Is the epidemic under control?
2. Can the health system cope with a possible resurgence of cases?
3. Is there an ability to track and trace new cases and their contacts?"

@Ejiketion Drug research usually doesn’t have enough POC or female volunteers, which means you can be less confident about the side effects in those demographics. 🤐
@Ejiketion@papil017 There is a Phase 4 too which is essentially monitoring the drug once it has been licensed to make sure there aren’t long term side effects....
@Ejiketion@papil017 Phase 1 is testing on around 80 healthy people at very low dosages to establish side effects without the disease’s symptoms interfering. Phase 2 tests about 300 select people with the disease to establish a ballpark picture of how the drug works and interacts with the disease....
@Ejiketion@papil017 Phase 3 is about 3k patients, comparing the new drug with pre-existing options. The theory on the drug’s method of action from Phase 2 is tested and wider demographic tests are done...
