From Anthropic’s S-1: when a frontier lab wants to show why AI matters, it reaches for biology.
Even they say they can’t accelerate biology and medicine alone.
What do they need? At least 3 things great bio companies are building:
I have hard time to believe “AI will solve all diseases in 10 years” - biology takes time (9 genius woman will not have a baby in a month..) and we don’t have the data
I only heard one explanation from an AI expert how this can happen, he told me “AI will kill us all” 🤦♂️
FDA officials sketch how a therapy targeting aging might reach approval, revealing longevity is an FDA priority
Yeah, that’s a big deal

Today we’re opening our structure-free AI drug discovery model for all to use!
Ptarmigan-1 predicts which small molecules bind a protein, and where, without building a 3D protein structure. It learns from multiple kinds of data, including measurements of proteins at work inside living human cells.
This is the culmination of a long and winding path to get here
In my first week of grad school, I sat in a lecture hall where generations of chemists had trained and Nobel Prizes hung on display. One of the most accomplished chemists in the world introduced us to the word “undruggable,” describing targets that so many had given up on.
I remember sitting there feeling so indignant. Of course all targets are impossible to drug until the right technology lets you drug it.
Thankfully I found my people in @jaybradner's lab, where the T-shirts said “nothing is undruggable”, and got to work
We focused on gene regulators there, proteins that control which genes turn on and off and can drive cancer. Most are poorly structured, making them difficult targets for traditional tech that focus on a well-defined binding pocket.
Gene regulators are not the only disordered proteins though. Roughly 40% of the human proteome has significant disorder, and these targets remain out of reach while discovery for structured proteins gets faster every year.
With Ptarmigan-1, we’re giving researchers a way to search for molecules against these targets without first having to solve their structure.
I’m grateful to the team and supporters that brought us here. Now we get to see what the community does with it.
Try it and tell us what you think. Link below.
Underpaying yourself as a founder doesn't make you tough. It makes you broke, resentful, and likely to quit early.
It's just as common as the opposite problem: overpaying yourself and acting like a for-hire CEO.
Founder comps shouldn’t be hard:

We sequence genomes and map transcriptomes with ease. Why is the proteome still invisible?
Proteins are where biology actually happens. But until now, we have lacked the tools to read them at scale.
@jendionne and her team are building nanophotonic chips that turn proteins into readable signals. Not by inference, but by directly measuring their molecular fingerprints. We sat down with her to learn more about her vision for protein sequencing. Article linked below
SynBioBeta 2026 is May 4-7th in San Jose, California, you can learn more about the conference and get your tickets here: https://t.co/96IRAmgbEi
“Pumpkinseed reads directly from molecular vibrations, requiring no catalog and no prior knowledge of what it is looking for.”
If this works at scale, it becomes the missing data layer for AI-driven biology. The foundation for virtual cells. The next infrastructure moment after the Human Genome Project.
This is exactly the kind of work that changes industries.
And these are exactly the kinds of people you want to meet in person.
Because relationships are built in the room.
Deals happen in the room.
Breakthroughs happen in the room.
Excited to have Jennifer Dionne join us at #SynBioBeta2026.

1/ Is there a credible plan to solve aging in our lifetimes?
A plausible series of steps from where we are today, to a post-aging future?
We looked, but we couldn’t find one. So we decided to build one.

Truly honoured and delighted to receive to an OBE from the Queen! What a wonderful surprise. 🙏🎖🇬🇧
Such a privilege and thrill to help entrepreneurs to build their vision and change the world... and feeling so fortunate that I get to receive a medal for doing that!
