Samuel Bruce Perkins was born June 14, 1961 in Brooklyn New York, where he honed his basketball skills on the tough playgrounds of Brooklyn.
He attended Samuel J. Tilden High School and was an average player until the family moved upstate to Latham, NY after his junior year. There, he graduated from Shaker High School and during that senior year, was named high school player of the year by the New York State Sportswriters Association in 1980. That magical transformation led to his being chosen to the 35 Greatest McDonald's All Americans team!

Heavily recruited across the country, the 6'9, 250 lb. Perkins chose the University of North Carolina, playing from 1980 to 1984.
He was named ACC Rookie of the Year in 1981 and starred alongside future Hall of Famers James Worthy and Michael Jordan. They won an NCAA championship in 1982.
He was a 3x All-American, 3x 1st team All-ACC, selection and named the 1984 USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year. Perkins finished college as UNC's all-time leader in rebounding and blocked shots and second leading scorer in team history.
As a member of the USA Olympic team he won gold in 1984!
Perk was chosen by the Dallas Mavericks as the 4th pick in the 1984 NBA draft, and played as a power forward and center in the NBA from 1984 to 2001 bringing his talents to Dallas, the Los Angeles Lakers, Seattle SuperSonics, and Indiana Pacers over a 17-year career. Named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1985, he scored a career-high 45 points on April 12, 1990. One of the first 3-point shooting big men in the NBA, he tied an NBA record on January 15, 1997, by making 8, 3-pointers in a row.
His best pro season was in 1991-92 when he averaged 16.5 ppg, 8.8 rebounds and shot 37.0% from the 3-point line.
Often called "The Big Easy" bcause his slow, deliberate, but effective style of play, Perkins was named Vice President of player relations for the Indiana Pacers and held the position with the Pacers until 2010. He helped contribute to the US State Department's mission to remove barriers and create a world in which individuals with disabilities enjoy dignity and full inclusion in society.
Perkins was named to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018 and the NYC Basketball Hall of Fame, among many other awards and accolades!

This is a good example of the difference between prediction markets and actual projections.

The Red Sox made a bunch of trades at the deadline, a bunch of money comes in on them to win the World Series and all of a sudden the prediction markets give them the second best chance to win the World Series.

FanGraphs isn’t taking bets on the event, so their odds don’t shift based on how much money comes in on one team. They give the Red Sox the 8th best chance of winning the World Series.

So Kalshi is essentially offering the 2nd best odds to win the WS to the 8th best team. Good for Kalshi, bad for anyone who makes that bet.
