The National Leader of our great Party, Senator Dickson Hosts US Democracy Groups, Demands Independent Institutions Ahead of 2027 Elections

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), on Monday received a joint delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), two prominent United States-based institutions that promote democracy worldwide.

During the meeting, Dickson shared his views on the need to strengthen Nigerian democracy and outlined the challenging political environment in which opposition parties currently operate. He also briefed the visitors on the activities of the NDC, which he described as Nigeria’s newest and one of its fastest-growing opposition platforms.

Dickson expressed appreciation to the IRI/NDI team and the United States Government for their continued interest in supporting democratic growth in Nigeria. He praised the work of the two organisations and thanked them for seeking his assessment of the current political situation.
The senator stressed the urgent need to support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and guarantee its true independence.

He equally called for an impartial judiciary and insisted that all state institutions, including the security agencies, must act as neutral arms of government rather than extensions of the ruling party.

“All political leaders, regardless of party affiliation, should demonstrate patriotism and remain committed to protecting Nigeria’s national institutions,” Dickson said.

He noted that while multiparty democracy enjoys broad agreement in principle, the NDC and its leadership have made significant sacrifices to strengthen and sustain it in practice.

Dickson called for robust support for INEC, capacity building for political parties, and comprehensive monitoring of the forthcoming general elections. He further urged strong collaboration to identify, prosecute and punish terrorists and other individuals who take up arms to terrorise, kill, maim or intimidate communities and citizens during elections.

“Terrorists masquerading as politicians must be treated as terrorists everywhere around the world. There must be consequences for such actions,” he stated. Where Nigerian laws or institutions prove inadequate, he added, international collaboration should be used to name, shame and sanction those responsible. The NDC, he said, would work to ensure this happens.

Drawing on his experience as a former governor of Bayelsa State who led the state from opposition, Dickson warned that some “desperate and criminally minded individuals masquerading as political leaders within the ruling establishment” have repeatedly resorted to buying arms, training thugs, recruiting armed groups and colluding with security personnel to maim and kill during election seasons, rather than mobilising genuine political support.

He observed that some of these individuals continue to enjoy government patronage, with some appointed as ministers and others contesting elections.

Dickson affirmed the NDC’s determination to ensure that Nigerians can vote freely and that their votes count. He called on INEC, the security agencies and all relevant institutions to enable citizens to exercise their democratic rights without fear, intimidation or violence.

He specifically appealed for robust and independent election monitoring in the Niger Delta and Bayelsa State, as well as in other parts of the country where such threats may be prevalent.

“Nigeria’s democracy must be protected, and every Nigerian must have the confidence that their vote matters,” Dickson concluded.

National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), His Excellency Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson, CON, has approved the appointments of Messrs. Sani Takori, VinMartinObiora Ilo and Steve Nwosu as Political Adviser, Chief Technical Adviser (CTA) and Spokesman respectively.

The appointments which, according to the former two-term Governor of Bayelsa, take immediate effect, are aimed at strengthening operations, administration and strategic communication around both the National Leader and the NDC, which Dickson midwifed, and which is now both the leading opposition party in Nigeria as well as the fastest growing political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to a statement signed by the NDC National Publicity Secretary,  Osa Director Esq., both Ilo and Nwosu come into the job with a track record of professionalism, credibility and integrity, while Hon Takori is a tested and trusted public administrator, with a hugely  impressive political resumé.
A lawyer by training, Takori whose career started from the old Sokoto State, was variously a Registrar, Magistrate, Solicitor-General and later, Attorney- General and Commissioner for Justice in his native Zamfara State.

An Alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University and the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Takori was elected intothe House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007, and on four occasions, secured his party’s senatorial ticket for his district, but voluntarily stepped down for candidates who eventually won the elections for the party.

A committed party man, Takori was the Zamfara State governorship candidate of APDA (Advanced Peoples Democratic  Alliance) to the 2019 Gubernatorial election.  He is also a founding member of NDC, and its Protem National Secretary at its registration as a political party.
A one-time Local Government Chairman, Hon. Takori was National Legal Adviser to the Council of Ulamas, Chief Legal Officer of the Nigerian Electoral Commission and also served as secretary of the Yarima Presidential campaign in 2007, having served in the same capacity in 2003.
68- year-old lawyer-cum politician hails from Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara.

The new Chief Technical Adviser, VinMartin Obiora Ilo, is a media executive, broadcast journalist and development and international relations expert, with nearly four decades of experience across broadcasting, public service, strategic communications, and development consultancy.

An Alumnus of the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Ilo is a graduate of Mass Communications from the Institute of Management and Technology Enugu, with an MSc in Development Studies from the University of Nigeria Nsukkaand a Masters degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the Lagos State University.

He started  his career in Radio Nigeria, rising to the position of Network Newscaster before joining Africa Independent Television (AIT) where he retired in 2013 as Director Special Duties and South East Operations
A former Special Adviser Media to the Governor of Enugu State, he also served as a member of the Governing Board of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Until his new appointment VinMartin Obiora Ilo was the President and CEO of Signature TV. He hails from Enugu State.

Similarly, Steve Nwosu, a long-standing associate of Sen. Dickson's, is a multi-platform Journalist, media administrator, Media consultant and political communication strategist,  with practice cutting across, Print Media, Broadcasting and Online.
He is a celebrated columnist – writer of the hugely popular satirical weekly column, FRANKTALK, which is now syndicated.

On 22 July 2026, I became involved in a financial dispute that has left me with a significant loss, and I am asking for the public's help in bringing attention to my case.

I am a Nigerian cryptocurrency P2P trader. Over time, I completed several successful trades with a trader named Mr. Kenneth Mercer-Wood through the OKX P2P platform. Because our previous transactions had gone smoothly, I trusted him when we entered into another trade.

During that transaction, I sold 2,794.11 USDT. Payment of 9,500 Israeli Shekels (ILS) was sent to the designated Bank Leumi account for the purchase of the cryptocurrency.

After the transfer appeared, I was informed by the recipient that they preferred to wait because they believed certain Bank Leumi-to-Bank Leumi transfers could potentially be reversed within a short period. I communicated this concern to Mr. Mercer-Wood and asked if he could wait until the payment was confirmed as final before I released the cryptocurrency.

According to my understanding of what happened, Mr. Mercer-Wood insisted that I release the USDT immediately. Because we had completed several successful trades in the past, I trusted him and released the cryptocurrency.

Only a few hours later, I was informed that the 9,500 ILS transfer had been reversed, leaving me without both the payment and the 2,794.11 USDT I had already released.

I contacted Mr. Mercer-Wood immediately. He later told me that the bank informed him the transfer had been reversed and said he had not personally requested the reversal. Since then, despite many conversations and promises to visit the bank and resolve the issue, I have still not recovered my money or my cryptocurrency.

I have preserved evidence relating to this matter, including the transfer receipt, our communications, and videos connected to the transaction. I have also submitted complaints to the relevant platforms and am seeking assistance from the appropriate authorities.

I am not asking anyone to harass, threaten, or make assumptions about anyone's guilt. I am simply asking for my case to receive attention so that the appropriate authorities and platforms can review the evidence and help ensure a fair resolution.

A world with zero “indoctrination” is UNREALISTIC. Even if you remove explicit teaching, a child is still shaped by family, culture, language, and incentives. Character is formed through habituation...what you repeatedly do and are taught to value.

A child will absorb patterns...from parents, language, culture, rewards....whether anyone intends it or not. Influence is inevitable. Indoctrination is when that influence becomes closed, rigid, and unquestionable.

Understand there’s a difference between shaping a child, and sealing a child. And (African) parents do not usually shape...they seal, consciously or unconsciously. So the realistic goal can never be “no indoctrination.” The real goal would be for the child to come of age and think critically for themselves. To break free from their intellectual imprisonment. To actually question what they believe...examine it, defend it, or revise it.”

Now enough talk...people often assume "freedom" is equal to "atheism" because it looks like a rejection of authority meaning "religion" is equal to "bondage". “Freeing yourself from indoctrination” is not defined by what you end up believing (atheist, religious, spiritual, etc.). It’s defined by how you hold your beliefs. You can leave a religion and still think rigidly.... still indoctrinated, just in a new form or stay in a religion and think critically...not indoctrinated.
