My network in Los Angeles is entirely liberal. Not the wild ratchet liberals you see all over X, but they are extremely liberal nonetheless.

Most of them stopped speaking to me when I became conservative.

Yet….

They ALL voted for Spencer Pratt.

Leonardo DiCaprio publicly endorsed him, as have most intelligent and successful liberals.

That is how badly LA needs strong commonsense leadership.

When I was the Air Force Military Aide to Bill Clinton (and again, that was not a political appointee position, it was a military assignment), I served daily with very young staffers who were appointed because of their efforts in the campaign or who their parents were.

I really enjoyed interacting with most of them. Bright kids from Ivy League school. But their naïveté and lack of experience showed. Dramatically.

One day I was walking across the White House “campus,” the “18 acres,” and I encountered one of the young female staffers. We chatted for a bit, and she asked me, “So, why did you join the military? Were your career options limited or were you forced to by a judge?”

I wanted to throat punch her, but I said, “No, ma’am, I volunteered.”

She asked, “But why? Lack of education? No other options?”

“No, ma’am, I volunteered. Really. Not only do I have a Bachelor’s but also an MBA.”

She asked again, “Then why?”

I shook my head and walked away. They simply can’t understand a higher calling. They are incapable of understanding that another human who would selflessly serve.

Therein lies much of the Democrat vs. military disconnect. They’re missing the patriotism chip.

Contrarian take: Many people call any investigation into the truth a "conspiracy theory" in order to discourage people from investigating the truth

Examples:
- IRS attacks on Tea Party non-profits - 100% true, IRS admitted as much and paid millions in damages
- Covid origins - almost certainly from the Wuhan lab, still hotly debated, but investigation was mocked as a "conspiracy theory"
- "fed" involvement in white supremacist movements - some of it was plain old racists, some was fed, some was SLPC

These are interesting stories but if you are curious about them, people will tell you that you're a conspiracy theorist for investigating them

A few observations about the US so far (caveat, I haven't left LA yet and it's only been 2 days in country, so take with a grain of salt!)

1. It's not nearly as cheap as it used to be. I've been to the US 6 times in the past. Food, accommodation, transport, and clothing used to be VERY cheap here. It was expensive to get to, cheap to stay in, but now I'm pinching pennies as the pricetag on everything seems VERY high.

Money printing always drives inflation, tax increases (including tariffs) always hurt the locals most no matter what the government may claim, and we're seeing the product of both right now in the cost of living here.

To be clear the US is still better off than most of the world (last I checked even the poorest State in the US was still wealthier on average than the entire UK is on average, so understand that the US are still doing JUST FINE), but they are not nearly as well off as they could be and should be were it not for inflation and taxation.

2. There's a shocking level of openness and friendliness, yes even in LA. This is what I remember from Melbourne 25 years ago but forgot used to be 'normal'. It's almost impossible NOT to be having conversations all the time if you're out in public and people's DEFAULT response to another human being initiating conversation or interaction is warmth... I don't know why this feels so strange, it used to be normal in Australia too. Believe it or not people here feel like they have MORE time for each other, not less!

3. They talk about politics gladly and (relatively) openly. Yes they'll hedge a little on which 'side' they're on as they 'feel out' a conversation, but as a topic for conversation it's legitimate and not at all shied away from, and I've now overheard people who are clearly on different 'sides' have jovial and constructive conversations about lots of different things from sports to travel to, yes, politics, and manage to be friends at the end.

4. Everyone loves to help. The number of connections, introductions, and 'yes' responses that I've had in 2 days in the US outnumbers what I would get in a month in Australia. The remaining gaps in my schedule are filling fast as new opportunities open up, some BIG interviews are on the horizon, and I think this will end up being a FLAT OUT trip.

I can't wait to get down to San Diego for my first conference of the trip, it'll be my first ever trip to Southern California and I'll take the train so I see some of the countryside on the way.

That's today's mission, and the Galt's Gulch conference starts tomorrow evening.
