CMAST bids farewell to its 2022 class of Semester@CMAST students. Best of luck to these future scientists as they continue their education and research. At least 6 of the 15 students will stay through the summer to carry on with their research and conservation projects.
Thankful for the opportunity to present my research on Marine Mammal Stranding Diversity in North Carolina. Special thanks to my mentor @vgthayer for the guidance, and helping me grow my skills as a scientist!
Beyond blessed to have gotten the opportunity to participate in NC State’s Semester @ CMAST program this spring. Met some lifelong friends, grew my knowledge of marine science, and got a chance to work on Crystal skipper conservation with the best mentor out there @SeaPriceNC.
I just finished the most amazing semester of college and I want to say thank you to all the wonderful people I’ve met and had the opportunity to work with! This was such an amazing experience and I’ll never forget it. You guys made it worth while! 💚🐋
Ahhhh!! I can’t believe the semester is over! I want to thank all of my fellow semester at CMAST students and mentors for making this experience great! Great job on presentations today! So proud of everyone! 🐬🐟
Had the great opportunity to attend the Semester @ CMAST program this spring!! I got to work with the amazing Dr. Carol Price on gopher frogs in the Croatan National Forest and give a final presentation on the topic!! I love all of these people so much ❤️❤️ @_CMAST

The definition of small but deadly?
The blue-ringed octopus.
One of the most dangerous sea animals, its venom is 1,000x more powerful than cyanide. Fortunately, they're not likely to bite you unless cornered or handled. Keep your distance, friends! 🐙

Thank you Abbey for the great behind the scenes tour @NCAquariumatPKS. The @_CMAST students enjoyed learning about sea turtles and getting to help feed the fish!
The Clarion-Clipperton Zone is home to an amazing variety of marine life, like the dumbo octopus.
It's also being eyed as a potential site for seabed mining—and needs clear rules to protect it. 📹 NOAA

Special thanks to @jefethebird for letting me join the adventure of searching for herps! Saw a lot of cool critters including a timber rattlesnake and I even got to hold a black racer!! Such an amazing experience!
Last week, NCSU Semester@CMAST undergraduate students participated in a field course titled, Natural History of Coastal NC. The purpose of the week-long course, taught by Dr. Vicky Thayer, was to introduce students to native NC barrier island and estuarine flora and fauna.
