The trial of #VictoireIngabire is the perfect proof that Rwanda's courts are not professional.

The non-stop attacks against opposition leader @VictoireUmuhoza completely destroy the lie of Rwanda's rule of law. It exposes @PaulKagame's judiciary as a weapon used just for his political survival.

The @RwandaGov’s legal desperation is embarrassing. They have turned peaceful political work and non-violent civic training into a crime to invent fake "subversion" charges. They are absolutely terrified of any real democratic choice.

The biggest shame is the open rigging of her trial. The #HighCourt rejected her requests for a new judge and even fined her just for demanding fair treatment. They are forcing her to stand trial in front of the exact same group of judges that ordered her arrest in the first place.

How was #Victoire supposed to have a fair bail hearing when the judge himself was the one who demanded she be locked up❓How can that exact same judge who wanted her in prison be the one running her trial❓

True justice cannot exist when the investigator, the accuser, and the judge are all the same person. The regime’s reliance on fake court theater only proves its deep fear of being held accountable.

#Kagame, your inferiority complex won't let you understand that it is #Victoire's right to strive for becoming president because that chair you didn't inherit from your father #Rutagambwa.

The killing of civilians, and targeting mainly an ethnic group/community, for over 30 years is no longer ethnic cleansing. That's a "genocide". No more debate about this. #Justice to #people.

NEW: The Rwandan-controlled M23 armed group summarily executed over 140 civilians in July 2025, largely ethnic Hutu, in at least 14 villages and small farming communities in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

#DRC: There is no international law against the use of mercenaries. However, it is against international law to occupy another nation, pillage, and murder innocent civilians which the UN and AU have condemned @PaulKagame's troops and his latest proxy rebel group #M23 for doing in #Congo.

There is something striking about this image.

Victoire Ingabire, in prison clothes, surrounded by armed guards — yet smiling, both thumbs up.

For many Rwandans, an image like this carries emotions that statistics and political statements cannot capture: courage, resilience, sacrifice, but also a profound longing for a country where political differences can be expressed freely and peacefully.

She returned to Rwanda in 2010 knowing the risks, determined to pursue her political struggle peacefully. Sixteen years later, she is again in detention and before the courts.

Ultimately, this is bigger than one woman or one political movement.

Rwandans should be free to hear different ideas, debate them, support them or reject them — and make that choice themselves.

!!464 days!! #VictoireUmuhoza, a rare voice critical of President Kagame, arrested & detained on politically motivated grounds in Rwanda since 19/06/2025.
Today before High court in Kigali she concluded her defense against crude accusations that she had fomented a coup d'état.

Today, the Rwandan opposition leader, Ms Victoire Ingabire, celebrates her 58th birthday. Yesterday, the 2026 Josep and Liesel Vidal Peace Memorial Award was accepted on her behalf in Spain by her family.

Ms Ingabire was awarded this prestigious peace prize in recognition of her non-violent political activism in #Rwanda.

Ms Ingabire is currently being detained, a situation which the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has declared to be arbitrary.

The mistreatment she has been subjected to, both in the past and currently, at the hands of Rwandan authorities, is indicative of the legitimacy of her struggle and affirms it as being for all Rwandans and friends of Rwanda from across the world who wish to see the country embrace good governance underpinned by respect for human rights, the rule of law, and democracy.

In a meeting with Rwandan Ambassador @AmbMukantabana, Assistant Secretary Garcia stressed that Rwanda must uphold its obligations under the Washington Accords, including ending all support to M23 and withdrawing its forces from the DRC. Full implementation is the foundation for lasting peace in the Great Lakes region and will open the door to new investment and deeper economic ties that bring mutual prosperity.

This is an important report on how Rwanda and the DRC have outsourced and privatised violence in eastern Congo since November 2021. https://t.co/dS9AvnSI9G
