Let me pass on to you that which is of primary importance: that Jesus Christ, God come in the flesh, died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried in tomb, and that He was raised on the third day, putting death to death, according to the Scriptures. And that this genuine and historical event — the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus — is both intellectually credible and existentially satisfying.

I was just on the @SWANCapital podcast with @AndrewMcNairRYP, he asked me "if you could write one post on X that would be read by everyone in the world, what would it say?" my answer (posted above), combined a paraphrase of 1 Cor. 15:3-4 and the words that supposedly pushed @timkellernyc over the edge of belief.

In what is still my most read post, I showed how sports betting is skyrocketing in South Africa. I then made a prediction that, if trends were to continue, South Africa might reach R1 trillion of spending on sports gambling annually in 2025.

This week South Africa's National Gambling Board released the latest figures. And it blew my predictions out of the water: total turnover of sports betting in South Africa between April 24 and March 25 was R1 125 602 965 951 – R1.12 trillion (basically a quarter of all household spending)!

In a country without growth, just think of the other types of expenditure it is displacing. And where will it stop?

Parents can’t be mad at their college-age/young adult kids who aren’t regularly attending church (or at all) when they raised them in travel sports. They learned from parents that missing church to play in games/tournaments sets the right priority: i.e., self-preserving pleasure.
