It has been the worst year! But it has given me 1 lesson I want to promote & celebrate - the goodness of humanity still far outweighs the evil! When I took my 2 girls for a Bone Marrow Transplant in India earlier this year, I had much less than the $100k estimate (now >$160k+...)
Today marked the launch of the Mass Sickle Cell Awareness and Testing Campaign in schools, held at Iganga Progressive School as part of the pre-commemoration activities leading to #WorldSickleCellDay2026
The campaign aims to increase awareness about Sickle Cell Disease, promote early testing, and empower students with knowledge about prevention and management.
We sincerely appreciate the continued support from @MinofHealthUG, and @terumobct, and IMARA for their invaluable contribution towards making this initiative a success.
Together, we are raising awareness, promoting testing, and advancing the fight against Sickle Cell Disease in Uganda. #WorldSickleCellDay2026 #JCRCCares
📍The greatest burden of sickle cell disease is not always visible. Beyond the physical pain lies a silent mental health crisis that deserves urgent attention.
Depression is one of the most overlooked complications of sickle cell disease.
While much attention is rightly given to the physical challenges of sickle cell disease, chronic pain, recurrent hospitalizations, fatigue, and medical complications, the emotional and psychological burden often remains invisible.
Behind every pain crisis is a person navigating uncertainty, interrupted education, lost work opportunities, financial strain, social isolation, and concerns about the future. The impact extends far beyond the body.
At Catherine Phil Sickle Cell Support Initiative (CAPSCI), we believe that comprehensive sickle cell care must include mental health support. A patient can not truly thrive when emotional well-being is neglected.
Mental health is not a luxury. It is an essential component of quality healthcare.
As we continue our mission of advocacy, awareness, patient support, and community empowerment, we call upon healthcare providers, policymakers, development partners, educators, employers, caregivers, and communities to recognize the mental health challenges faced by individuals living with sickle cell disease.
Let us create safe spaces where patients are heard, supported, and empowered.
Let us break the stigma surrounding both sickle cell disease and mental health.
Let us ensure that no one faces this journey alone.
Together, we can build a future where every person living with sickle cell disease receives holistic care that addresses both physical and emotional well-being.
❤️ Listen. Support. Love.

Ahead of commemorating #WorldSickleCellDay2026, we are today at Kamuli General Hospital hosting a Sickle Cell Disease Camp dedicated to delivering free healthcare services and improving the well-being of individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease within the community.
Patients are accessing free Hydroxyurea capsules, counseling, health education, screening services, free malaria treatment, HIV testing, and comprehensive support from our dedicated medical teams.
This impactful initiative is being implemented through a partnership between JCRC, @terumobct, IMARA Sickle Cell Framework, @MinofHealthUG, Kamuli General Hospital, and Kamuli Local Government as we continue raising awareness, promoting early diagnosis and access to care, and improving the lives of people living with sickle cell disease.

What a year!
Pain & Gratitude
dance around in my heart
to a song I want to both stop & play.
I am so grateful to you who keep the 'e' in human.
A year's view is too overbearing this time, so let me say a prayer that our days in 2025, when combined, will be good in Jesus' name.
It has been the worst year! But it has given me 1 lesson I want to promote & celebrate - the goodness of humanity still far outweighs the evil! When I took my 2 girls for a Bone Marrow Transplant in India earlier this year, I had much less than the $100k estimate (now >$160k+...)
...& today, she shows up with 2 large bags of medicines/consumables she knew I needed & had bought for me! Tears I had negotiated with to come at "scheduled" times away from the baby's bedside broke their promise! Now, by every possible interpretation, her salary is very low!
@pheonagh_f@PheonaWall@LEAD_EA Congratulations, my friend. God has done it again! And you are one stellar servant/steward, He must find it easy to promote you! Onwards and Forward!
Thank you @PheonaWall@LEAD_EA
