@EsotericCD Btw, at the concert on sunday, they didn’t play mystery zone, but from this album, they played “who makes your money” and ended the show with “got nuffin”. Banged out 15-16 songs with barely any pause. Incredible.
@MrSockPuppet@SandyofCthulhu I loved that scene and I love his redemption, but what I really loved was that Cameron was so good that he made it so that the explosion causes the next crisis (Newt falling through the grate) and there's no pause for a "thoughtful reflection" shot. Incredible action sequence.
@bendreyfuss I think about that great movie and the implications all the time. And that happened in an era where there was still some governance on the distribution of rumors and half-information.
@bendreyfuss I was watching the second one and remembered thinking “oh, the design of the bad guys ship, especially the bridge, is cool” but I couldn’t tell you anything that happened in the movie plot wise.
@bendreyfuss This is the same phenomenon as when AOC said she couldn’t get a good bacon egg and cheese sandwich in DC and people were telling her fancy random places to go. No, the point is that in NYC, anytime you want a good BEC, you are no more than five minutes away from ordering one.
@popmartyb@JoyceCarolOates I think that may be a misquotation:
“If you graduate Yale, you get to become president,” Bush said. “If you drop out, you get to be vice president.”

@StephenGutowski@Timodc@SonnyBunch@SarahLongwell25 Hard agree...I really enjoyed the first season, but the second season feels very padded with inconsequential filler that will then be discarded by the end of the season.
@SonnyBunch I would also give Alien: Resurrection an “entertaining schlock” rating (Dan Hedeya, Ron Perlman, that weird Brad Dourif speech) but this is otherwise spot on.
@SonnyBunch What makes him interesting is that he's messy and imperfect...I think that obliquely showing him through a Roman a Clef (e.g., The Bear) is the best way to explore that messiness, versus a straightforward take, which you rightly predict will be a hagiography.
@mattzollerseitz This scene crossed my mind this morning and it is such a nice coincidence for me that you posted it. So quiet and so demanding of attention.
@EsotericCD@NRO Funny stuff: “This doesn’t normally happen to beat reporters like me,” their internal monologues are screaming. “I am living the dream.”
