@KuKhahil You seem to think when people disagree with you that they don’t understand. It’s always wise to just pay the player what they think they are worth to avoid the difficult conversation. Should the Pistons not use the leverage that they rightfully have in this situation?
@KuKhahil How do we really even know there is actually a relationship issue? Because his agent is saying so? Do you think maybe that agent is telling Duren, let me try to squeeze them here and see if they move. You can heal a lot of relationships with $177 million dollars.
@KuKhahil I’d feel better about B if we had kept Stew. I think it becomes difficult to get B done in this offseason. I choose A. You can always move Duren later if we want to.
@afroaustin91@KuKhahil@Charlottean28 I think that significantly increases the chances the Lakers renounce enough of the other cap holds to make a max offer to Duren. But I take Trajan at his word that he’ll just match the offer for Duren.
@jaxgregory Perhaps. I think that would be selling pretty low on Duren and leave a pretty big hole. My gut is Trajan is going to match any offer. He said as much, but he’s not going to negotiate against himself. If Duren didn’t like the offer, go secure the better offer and we’ll match.
@MrDetroit_313 He’s not a significant upgrade. Joe only played 9 minutes per game against the Spurs because he struggled to defend as well. IMO, both players should have a role on this team.
@omarisankofa This is all agent noise. The so-called National NBA “Insiders” are really just regurgitating whatever Duren’s agent wants to get out there in the press to create urgency for Detroit. Trajan has the leverage here and I suspect he is unfazed by this noise.
@AriWagner_ There is no TPE in that scenario due to rules around base year compensation. In my opinion, BYC makes any kind of sign and trade with the Kings or Lakers highly unlikely.
@Homer_GM_Kaner@BruceTennen They’d have to renounce LeBron, Rui, and Luke Kennard just to make the offer. Detroit will match, and then the Lakers could only bring those guys back if they fit into cap space. I don’t see them doing that.
@KuKhahil Based on what I’ve come to understand about the BYC rules, I don’t see Detroit doing an S&T with the Kings or Lakers. If an S&T did happen (and I don’t think it will), I think it would be with the Nets, and look like Duren, LeVert and Sasser going out and MPJ coming back.
@Halbridious I actually misspoke there slightly. A better way to say it is even if the Pistons are sending out $40m in that scenario, only 50% of that number counts towards salary that can be taken back by Detroit.
@Halbridious My understanding is there are 4 requirements that trigger the BYC rule, and at the salary Duren is likely to command in a S&T scenario, all 4 will be met. With BYC, if we assume Duren gets a first year salary of $40m, Detroit can only take back 50% of that in a trade, so $20m.
