@PollywoggyJ@JohnMChell That was additonal sacrifice in order to win a championship. He will make it back with endorsements multiple times over. He is the #1 player in the #1 media market.
@nstudenski@itsbeetles@NYC_DOT It certainly does not speed of freight with the addiotnal congestion. The speed improvements will be marignal at best. If the buses make every stop, which they do during rush hour, they are always in simulated bumper to bumper traffic. There is no avoiding it.
Apple was a much weaker company in terms of technological advancement in 1980 than Space X is now. You were essentially buying a second rate computer manufacturer that didn't have a majorly successful product for another 21 years. People in 1980 were not thinking "I am going to hold this junk for 21 years, and then they'll start making products people actually want."
Space X in the next 18 months will have commerical flights on Starship. Within the next 3 to 5, they should achieve full rapid reusabiltiy, and with scale get the price to launch down to that $10/kf number in the years after that.
It's fine to say that you don't belive in the tech, or it is priced in a way that is assuming inappropriately low execution risk, but to compare it to Apple in 1980 is ridiculous.
They have proven a ton more than what Tesla had proven at the time of its IPO. It's all about having the correct perspective.
@itsbeetles@NYC_DOT The bus lane causes the congestion for the cars. Busses are slow because of the stops they make. The people on the bus and people at the bus stops make them slow. They will still be slow even with their own street.
@PeterKHanse@nihalmehta Yes, and? It costs less than $10 a person to run per year, and that would be without any trust. I think the welfare is a much bigger issue.
@3stddev@nicolegelinas Give them what they want in exchange for excelerated automation. Then when the next contract comes, negotiate involuntary termination with severance. Use automation to keep running the trains if they strike again. It will cost a lot, but it will be a one time outflow.
The market rate to park if you really need to is already available. There is no reason to also charge for street parking when it adds no marginal cost to the roads.
Yes, drivers in NYC pay a lot and most of the money is used to fund the subways. Even if the entire state charged per mile, it would cost around $0.15. We can charge the cost of the subways also, which would be $12. I would gladly pay $0.15 a mile if it was all I had to pay to the state to drive, and my taxes were lowered to make up any difference.
